Reports to: Assistant Provost for Innovative Learning Experiences

Purpose:   Under the guidance of the assistant provost for innovative learning experiences, this position entails the research and design related to student success initiatives at The American University in Cairo (AUC), including academic support and academic achievement. This position entails the supervision of the day to day operations of the newly founded Peer-Tutoring Center. The job holder will be responsible for the recruitment, training and ongoing monitoring and evaluation of peer tutors, as well as the student tutoring experience. He/she will also be responsible for conducting quantitative and qualitative research to provide relevant data and insights to inform decision-making to enhance the student learning experience at AUC.

Principal Accountabilities:  

  • Design and deliver pedagogical training to cohorts of student tutors throughout the semester
  • Manage the monitoring and evaluation process of the peer tutoring program
  • Conduct research with students and faculty to identify learning needs, and design and deliver training sessions accordingly, to support student needs
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to tutors and work study students, related to their job performance, professionalism, and work habits
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative research to provide relevant data and insights to inform decision-making related to student success initiatives
  • Design the program’s marketing materials and communication releases
  • Appraise and evaluate performance of all tutors throughout the semester
  • Manage the recruitment process of all peer-tutors which includes: vacancy announcements, interviews, evaluation, hiring and onboarding
  • Monitor the quality of service of peer tutors, as well as the student tutoring experience
  • Coordinate the scheduling of tutoring sessions to ensure adequate support to students at different hours of the day, and times of the semester
  • Plan and process tutor payments and program expenses in a timely manner
  • Coordinate and implement student success program marketing to faculty and students
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required
  • Master’s degree in related fields is required. Degrees in the following fields is an asset: instructional design, pedagogy, educational leadership

Experience

  • 7 to 9 years of experience with three years in a related field
  • Experience designing and delivering trainings

Skills

  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Proficient with G-Suite: Documents, Sheets, Forms
  • Data analysis skills
  • Good knowledge of pedagogy
