About The American University in Cairo:

Job Description:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering in the School of Sciences and Engineering of the American University in Cairo has an opening for a faculty position in Power at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor for appointment beginning Fall 2020. The successful candidate must have a strong background in thermofluids and energy applications, both conventional and nonconventional. Familiarity with combustion applications is a plus. Research interests and history in fields related to transport phenomena, energy economics and management, modelling of energy systems, and advanced measurement or computational techniques are desirable.

As part of his/her teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will contribute to teaching and research in the undergraduate major and graduate studies. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to develop and/or teach courses in their area of expertise, as well as conduct research and solicit funding in support of scholarly activities. The School is home to programs in Natural Sciences and Engineering. The School is also home to graduate engineering programs and interdisciplinary programs in Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, Environmental Sustainability, Environmental Engineering and Global Public Health. Four centers are housed in the School, including a robust extended education center. In addition, the School and University are embarking on initiatives that focus on industrial and community engagement.  


Requirements:

The candidate should have an earned doctorate, be proficient in English and have a demonstrated track-record of practice, teaching and research or demonstrated potential of the latter. A solid record of professional practical experience and established record in attracting funded research and scholarship is highly desirable. We seek applicants who are enthusiastic about their profession and undergraduate and graduate education with classroom and laboratory teaching experience, and are highly motivated researchers capable of leading a project and training students with passion. Translational experience beyond the didactic is highly desirable, and are demonstrable evidence of interdisciplinary interests and collaboration.
