Job Description:

The American University in Cairo (AUC) and the Department of Law in the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) invite applications for a one-semester visiting position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, beginning Fall 2021.

Responsibilities include teaching graduate level courses in Comparative Law. In addition, the successful candidate will supervise graduate student dissertations and contribute through service to the Department, the School, and the University.

Located in Cairo, in the heart of the dynamic Middle East and North Africa region, the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy provides policy students with a practical and multidisciplinary understanding of the world around them. GAPP consists of three academic departments in law, public policy and administration, and journalism and mass communication, in addition to five academic and research centers including the Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (CMRS), the Cynthia Nelson Institute for Gender and Women Studies (IGWS), the Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism, Middle East Studies Program (MESC), and Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud Center for American Studies and Research. This is in addition to two other units, the Law and Society Research Unit (LSRU) and the Executive Education unit.

About The Department of Law

The school's Department of Law (LAW) offers two graduate degrees: an LL.M. in International and Comparative Law, MA in International Human Rights Law, Graduate Diploma in International Human Rights Law, Graduate Diploma in International and Comparative Law, and Bachelors of Arts in Political Science/Masters of Arts in International Human Rights Law.
These degrees attract a diverse constituency of Egyptian and international students interested in pursuing careers in academia, international civil service, human rights and development work, or in the legal profession as lawyers, judges or prosecutors.  Wide range of courses are designed to provide students with the intellectual and analytical tools to intervene critically and effectively from a global south perspective in the policy debates around the challenges confronting their societies.  

The Department's course offerings have expanded in the years since the founding of GAPP to the undergraduate level particularly in the framework of a dual degree with the Department of Political Science at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences in AUC. The Department is currently exploring expanding its undergraduate curriculum.


The successful applicant will hold a terminal degree in Law (e.g. J.D./S.J.D./Ph.D. in Law) by the date of appointment. The successful applicant will possess expertise in Comparative Law.
