About The American University in Cairo:

Founded in 1919, AUC is the region's  premier university.  It is Middle States accredited with many of its programs having further accreditations for the different programs they offer.  In 2008, AUC moved to a new 270-acre state-of-the-art campus in New Cairo. It continues to operate in its historic downtown facilities, offering cultural events, graduate classes, and continuing education. Student housing is available in New Cairo.

AUC is an English-medium institution, where most courses are taught in English. The AUC Libraries contain the largest English-language research collection in the region and are an active and integral part of the University's pursuit of excellence in all academic and scholarly programs. 


Job Description:

The Department of Rhetoric and Composition (RHET), an academic department in the AUC's Academy of Liberal Arts, invites applications from experienced teachers of Rhetoric and Composition. Teaching in RHET will focus on developing first-year students' abilities and skills in critical thinking and reading, oral and written communication, teamwork, and information literacy. Candidates teaching in RHET will teach at least three sections twice per week, maintain weekly office hours, and meet regularly with students for individual conferences.

Note: Any faculty hired in the Rhetoric and Composition department may be asked to teach in the Department of English Language Instruction (ELI), based on enrollment needs. Teaching in ELI will focus on English for Academic Purposes (EAP): listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.  Successful candidates teaching in ELI will teach three hours every day four days a week in addition to time for individual conferences.


Requirements:

This position requires at least two years of teaching experience in a related field and an MA in Rhetoric and Composition, MFA, or MA in TESOL or other related fields in the Humanities.

Additional Information:

The position is full-time, with the possibility of a two-year contract, beginning in Fall 2022.
