Job Description:

The Department of Law at the American University in Cairo invites applications for a four-year, fixed-term position in International and Human Rights Law, on the Assistant or Associate Professor level, beginning Fall 2021. The successful candidate will be expected to teach three graduate or undergraduate courses per semester in International Law, International Human Rights Law, Humanitarian Law, or related disciplines, depending on the curricular needs of the department. Expertise in the practice of international law in the Middle East is an asset but not a necessary condition. The successful candidate is expected to supervise graduate student theses in the LL.M. Program in International and Comparative Law and the MA Program in International Human Rights Law and Justice of the Law department.


Successful applicants will hold a J.D., a PhD, or equivalent degree in law by the date of appointment.  A teaching record in international law, humanitarian law, and human rights law is strongly desirable, as is a demonstrated interest in living and working in the Middle East and Africa.
