Company Description:

The Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz AlSaud Center for American Studies and Research (CASAR) is under the umbrella of the School of Global Affairs & Public Policy (GAPP). Its mission is to further mutual understanding between the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and the United States through academic research on MENA-U.S. cultural and political interactions, and the development of academic programs on American studies, including American politics, history, foreign policy, culture and society. Furthermore, CASAR supports research by students and faculty members on topics related to the center's objectives and interests.

Job Description:

The School of Global Affairs & Public Policy (GAPP) at the American University in Cairo invites applications for a Directorship position of the The Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud Center for American Studies and Research (CASAR).

Ideally the successful candidate should have ten years of academic experience including holding a PhD in American Studies or a related discipline. The position is also open to professors of practice ideally with fifteen years of professional experience in US foreign policy especially as it relates to the Middle East and the Arab world.

Requirements:

Education:

A Ph.D. degree in a relevant field of study. Minimum of an MA degree for professors of practice.

Professional Experience:

Ideally ten years of academic experience including teaching and research in American studies or a related discipline.
For Professors of Practice candidates ideally should have 15 years of professional experience in American foreign policy especially as it relates to the Middle East and the Arab and Islamic world.

Research:

Having a research record showing interest and contribution to the field of American Studies and Middle East studies.
Ability to lead the center in developing its own research agenda in collaboration with relevant departments/units.
Ability to work with and engage various departments and faculty on campus to enhance their research contributions and course offerings related to Arab American understanding.

Policy Program

Ability to initiate and manage relevant active outreach policy seminars and conferences including but not exclusively with regional and international partners.

Administrative Experience:

Previous administrative experience in a reputable academic or think tank organization is preferable.

Teaching:

Ability to contribute to teaching in the academic program administered by CASAR, either by teaching existing courses or developing new ones.
Ability to expand on the current portfolio of course offerings related to American Studies and introducing changes that reflect the dynamic nature of American society and related new emerging interests in the field of American studies.
Ability to help in recruiting Egyptian and international students to the Center's undergraduate programs.

Networking:

Ability to engage a well-established international and regional network of scholars and professionals that can be called upon to contribute to the Center's activities, debates, symposia, workshops, etc.

Fund Raising:

Ability to fund raise for the center, internationally, regionally and locally working in close collaboration with the designated offices at the University.
