Reports to: Senior Director, Advancement Services, Department of Institutional Advancement and Alumni Relations

Purpose: The job holder will be reporting to the senior director, advancement services. This position provides leadership for ensuring strong relationships with donor through: strategic engagement, stewardship and recognition. Also, developing and implementing a comprehensive donor relations plan to achieve ambitious fundraising goals. He/she also leads on diverse initiatives and programs aimed at engaging new donors and sustaining existing donors.

Responsibilities:

Leadership:

  • Provide strategic leadership for integrated initiatives that positively impact the overall donor experience and increase philanthropic support
  • Deliver a comprehensive, institution-wide, and tiered donor strategy that engages and recognizes donors at all levels
  • Collaborate with frontline fundraisers, University leadership and faculty to promote University priorities and celebrate donor impact

Donors Engagement:

  • Develop and manage a strategy for donor engagement and communications for donors at all levels
  • With the fundraisers, create customized comprehensive stewardship plans for the largest donors
  • Develop, implement, and manage a suite of innovative donor engagement programs to increase donor involvement and enhance philanthropic support
  • Continuously evaluate the success and effectiveness of donor engagement programs through statistical and qualitative analysis
  • Serve as liaison and resource for collaboration with University faculty and administration on donor engagement best practices
  • Organize donor focus groups and surveys for feedback on stewardship programs
  • Serve as liaison between University offices and institutional advancement offices on fundraising support-related issues

Plan and manage stewardship and fundraising events, visits and trips:

  • Oversee the planning, design, and implementation of special programs, events and activities for donor and prospective donor engagement and donor recognition. Oversee related budget and expenditures
  • Monitor the experience of segmented donor populations to evaluate success and to strengthen relationships and increase giving
  • Work closely with the president’s office to organize leadership donor events and special activities
  • Liaise with the president’s office to support all donor related trips and visits
  • Manage logistics of donor visits and events including; events timelines, invitation lists, invitations, event logistics, RSVPs and follow up
  • Manage and advise on all gifts to donors. Maintain related records
  • Provide information on gift opportunities and fundraising priorities to all relevant parties
  • As necessary, brief and advise students for meetings and events involving donors
  • Ensure records of events are documented in the Salesforce database including lists of attendees, events program, speakers and event photos

Writing and Editorial Responsibilities:

· Oversee all donor relations communications including University leadership correspondence, talking points, proposals, and reports.

o Manage personalized presidential letters to donors and alumni, including congratulatory letters, solicitation letters, condolences and fund updates

o Maintain and manage continuous communication with donors through diverse communication channels including donor events, giving website and other publications

o Produce occasional messages to leadership donors from University president, provost, vice president and deans

o Advise on and supervise the development of the president’s various holiday and special messaging to leadership donors and wider donor community

Named Spaces Management:

  • Manage named spaces stewardship and auditing functions
  • Ensure all named space signage and recognition are designed and installed accurately, and are documented
  • Ensure all named space donors receive their recognition and reports
  • Perform a regular check up on named spaces and report any maintenance requests to facilities office

Giving Website Management:

· Coordinate with other institutional advancement colleagues to identify compelling stewardship content for the website while ensuring information is clearly presented, relevant and continuously updated

Other Duties:

  • Represent Institutional Advancement at professional or community meetings at the request of leadership
  • Manage special projects and other duties as assigned
  • Manage student workers and temporary help as needed
  • Build collaborative relationships on campus and coordinate with academic and administrative departments and students as needed
  • Network with professional groups and organizations to keep abreast of best practices related to donor relations

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, master’s preferred

Experience:

  • A minimum of 12 years of work experience, ideally for a non-profit, educational institution or international organization
  • Experience with donor relations and philanthropy
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills that can influence and motivate individuals and groups to achieve results
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others to achieve the strategic objectives of the University and institutional advancement
  • Adaptable, innovative and creative
  • Ability to keep team performance and morale high; self-motivator who can work independently, and under pressure
  • Consistently maintains a high level of action and with required results
  • Takes responsibility for work activities, personal actions and self-development
  • Detail oriented, with a high level of commitment to quality
