Reports to: Senior Director, Marketing Communications Project

Purpose: The job holder of creative services oversees all aspects of the branding, design and visual representation of the University across all mediums from print to online. The job holder ultimately maintains the University’s corporate identity guidelines and works to ensure that all materials adhere to the quality and standards set by The American University of Cairo (AUC). In addition, he/she is responsible for ensuring the University’s key communication messages in all aspects of the client requests of web and print, and works to ensure that departments and offices comply with the University’s branding guidelines and University communication policies. The jobholder is responsible for ensuring the quality in materials produced for AUC. In addition, responsible for meeting with representatives of offices, departments and centers maintain client relations, and ensure all client requests, either on the website or in promotional material in print are aligned with client needs as well as University strategic plan and goals. The job holder oversees the total project request process/cycle to ensure the unit is functioning harmoniously and effectively while delivering projects and targets. Also, responsible for overseeing client services for design, editorial and web support and sets deadlines and oversees projects management.

Responsibilities:

  • Work on and oversee, in collaboration with designers, editor/proofreader, and a web specialist, the design, development and production of all creative print and web media of materials aimed at promoting or publicizing the University or any of its schools, departments, centers, or offices in a manner that preserves and promotes the University’s brand and is aligned with its marketing vision and goals
  • Meet with all representatives of different schools, departments, centers and offices, and help identifying the priorities of each project and the specifics of the design requirements, as well as set deadlines and manage projects for the unit
  • Review, develop and implement the creative production processes and tools to improve efficiency and quality of work produced by the University; Set rules and policies for our project request process
  • Review and approve print, video and web publications of projects created by external content producers in consultation with design manager and content/editorial unit
  • Assess capabilities of unit; strengths and weaknesses, train/develop skills of junior staff to enhance service cycle and efficiency, and allocate resources needed to improve the unit’s service
  • Supervise the daily work of designers, editor/proofreader and web support specialist to ensure the accurate, timely and on-budget delivery of projects
  • Providing consultations and recommendations on creative and marketing matters, best practices and design-related issues for print and web medium
  • Review, guide and approve high-profile work of designers
  • Help review and set image, design and branding guidelines and policies in collaboration with design manager
  • Providing project management and assignment and client relations support for all projects within the creative services unit (web design, print design and video production)
  • Automating and improving office workflow processes
  • Automating and improving FileMaker Professional databases, or other similar projects
  • Generate monthly and annual reports of creative services unit
  • Organizing awareness session for the AUC community of office services and ways to enhance University communication with AUC communication policies
  • Reviewing and reprioritizing work schedule/deadlines within overloaded/understaffed periods for designers and editors alike
  • Communicate with clients of big project status and updates
  • Automating the University stationary and related aspects
  • Communicating with the AUC community members or non-AUC community of misuse or branding violations within in print or online publications/communication channels
  • Perform other related duties as requested from direct supervisor

Job Specifications:

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in communications, advertising, marketing or graphic design, or related field

Experience:

  • 10 to 15 years of work experience in communications, marketing or related field including minimum 5 years in a supervisory role.

Skills:

Technical Competencies:

  • Some knowledge in web-based publishing tools such as constant contact, Mail Chimp and so on
  • General understanding and knowledge of web development and content management systems and tools such as Drupal
  • Some knowledge of aspects of print production
  • Well knowledge in branding, marketing principles and tools across all mediums
  • Knowledge of basic office software including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Ability to coordinate work projects, determine priorities, set deadlines and complete projects accordingly
  • Program development, management and evaluation skills
  • Ability to lead and train staff
  • Ability to motivate and foster creativity in team members, while adhering to AUC branding constraints

  • Ability to build consensus, gain support and deliver results while working with groups across the University
  • Ability to multi-task is a must, strategic thinker, able to work under pressure and with shifting priorities, creative eye, attention to detail, deadline oriented, able to deliver results, strong leadership capabilities
