Assistant Director, Web Marketing and User-Journey

Reports to: Senior Director, Marketing Communications Projects

Purpose: The job holder’s main responsibility is to bridge the University website and marketing strategy, ensuring that The American University in Cairo’s (AUC) positioning and messaging are reflected on the website and digital platforms. He/she will continuously work on optimizing, enhancing and updating content that collectively creates a cohesive and consistent user-journey experience for AUC audiences on all marcom channels, especially digital. Also, work with all marketing communications units, admissions office, and diverse academic offices across the University.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain the key landing pages of the University website, focus on the user-journey and AUC’s positioning and main messages
  • Update and optimize the web content for prospective audience webpages such as academic, admissions, and program pages in collaboration with the digital communication team
  • Collaborate and align on AUC’s social media messages, digital activations, content/story and video selection to reflect creatively AUC’s main university messages and brand positioning
  • Oversee and ensure consistency of the university and recruitment marketing campaigns (messages, visual and call-to-action) onto the relevant webpages, publications and email marketing and newsletter stories and videos to ensure a full cycle experience and alignment
  • Develop a daily, monthly, semester and/or annual update plan for promotional material based on research of the audience digital user-journey and behavior as well as the on-ground activities to enhance and optimize processes, events and campaigns
  • Collaborate with creative services to produce university marketing material that clearly communicates AUC’s positioning messages include strategic initiatives and priority areas, recruitment collateral material, viewbook, presentations and slide deck for travel and school visits and needed material that supports recruitment
  • Research and analyze best practices of other US liberal arts university marketing and digital communications efforts
  • Coordinate with the marketing unit on various tools including Google advertisements, digital campaigns, banner ads and others that generate website traffic
  • Research and analyze AUC’s web analytics to spot trends, gaps and user-experience drop-offs from the start of social media post to application submission or other call to actions
  • Create audience user-journey reports that highlights areas of needed improvement and make suggestions for its enhancement

Job Specifications:

Education:

  • BA in journalism, English, marketing or a related communication field; MA preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in English writing and editing
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in digital platforms
  • Minimum 5 years of communication, web marketing, content strategy or writing experience
  • Experience working in higher education or non-profit institutions; knowledge of local culture is a plus
  • Knowledge, and experience with web analytics software, Google Analytics preferred
