The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, invites applications for a full time position as teaching assistant professor in General Medicine from 1 January 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.

You will be part of the General Medicine group of the Section for Medicine, Oncology and Veterinary Clinical Pathology.

The position is focused on planning and executing clinical teaching within companion animal general medicine and basic clinical skills. The teaching assistant professor is not expected to drive own original research, but to support and assist in ongoing research at the department.

The Section for Internal Medicine, Oncology and Veterinary Clinical Pathology ’s joint research area is the inter-dependency between inflammation and hemostasis as part of the innate immune defense and development of assays for predictive biomarkers in companion animal and comparative medicine. The section holds clinical teaching and service obligations within companion animal general medicine, internal medicine, critical care medicine, oncology, clinical nutrition and veterinary clinical pathology and collaborates across fields nationally and internationally.

Companion Animal General Medicine is a core discipline in the third, fourth and fifth years of the veterinary education in Denmark. The service covers all companion animals and function as a first opinion practice setting where students practice their clinical as well as communication skills.

Job description
The teaching assistant professor will be mainly responsible for teaching of veterinary students in companion animal general medicine in both pre-clinical and clinical core courses, as well as in supervision of students writing bachelor- or master thesis projects. In addition, the teaching assistant professor is expected to develop teaching material and to assist faculty in the development of further teaching strategies and in providing assistance for ongoing research projects within the Department.

In considering applications for the teaching assistant professorship, the main emphasis will be on the applicant´s ability to document a high level of clinical teaching experience in the field of general medicine at a specialized companion animal practice level. The teaching assistant professor is required to complete the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen assistant professor pedagogical degree (“Adjunktpædagogikum”).

Required qualifications

  • The applicant must hold a DVM with license to practice in Denmark
  • The applicant must be proficient in Danish
  • Documented undergraduate and/or post-graduate clinical teaching experience within companion animal general medicine
  • Documented postgraduate specialisation such as Master of Companion Animal Clinical Sciences or similar

The teaching assistant professor is also required to be enterprising and to possess good interpersonal skills.

Terms of employment
The permanent position as teaching assistant professor is a ful-time position and is to commence on 1 January 2023 or as soon as possible hereafter.
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

The Department ensures that the teaching assistant professor will undergo evaluation to become teaching associate professor at least 6 months prior to the end of 6 years of employment at the latest. After a positive assessment as teaching associate professor the assistant professor will advance to employment as teaching associate professor.
