Teaching assistant professor in Companion Animal Cardiology

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a full or a part-time position as a teaching assistant professor in Companion Animal Cardiology, starting from May 1, 2023, or as soon as possible after that. The position will be part of the cardiology group of the Section for Surgery, Neurology and Cardiology.

The position is focused on planning and executing clinical teaching within companion animal cardiology. The teaching does not require new research.

About the Cardiology Group
Companion animal cardiology is a core discipline in the clinical veterinary curriculum as part of veterinary education in Denmark. The companion animal cardiology referral service is led by Professor Jørgen Koch, a national specialist in veterinary cardiology, and consists of researchers and clinical teachers specialized in this field and PhD and master students. Companion Animal Cardiology runs a high throughput clinical referral service, seeing companion animal patients (dogs and cats) forming the basis for clinical teaching of veterinary and postgraduate master students (www.cacs.ku.dk).

The cardiology group has collaborative research with national and international research groups within feline genetics, myosin function in late-stage hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, hemostasis in feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and angiostrongylosis, and biomarkers in feline and canine heart diseases among other research subjects.

About the Position
The teaching assistant professor will be mainly responsible for teaching veterinary students and post-graduate master’s students in companion animal cardiology, as well as interacting with and assisting faculty in the development of new teaching strategies. In addition, the teaching assistant professor will assist faculty in supervising younger clinicians in clinical cardiology training.

Required qualifications

  • The applicant must hold a DVM with a license to practice in Denmark
  • Documented high-level post-graduate clinical continuing education within companion animal cardiology
  • Documented undergraduate and post-graduate clinical teaching experience within companion animal cardiology
  • Ability to complete the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen assistant professor pedagogical degree (“Adjunktpædagogikum”)
  • Enterprising and possessing good interpersonal skills

Terms of employment
The position as teaching assistant professor is full-time or part-time and available from 1 May 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

The Department ensures that the teaching assistant professor will undergo evaluation to become teaching associate professor at least 6 months prior to the end of 6 years of employment at the latest.
