The Cosmic Dawn Center (DAWN) invites applications for a student position at Faculty of Science (SCIENCE), University of Copenhagen. This is a temporary 4 month position starting 1 March 2023 and concluding 30 June.  

DAWN student position is intended for an outstanding student with an understanding of astrophysics and cosmology.  The student is expected to perform assigned tasks independently with minimal supervision and must be solution oriented.  Highly motivated students with experience in providing administrative and technical support to research teams, supporting event activities, are particularly encouraged to apply. Good communicating skills with strong desire to meet deadlines, are desirable.

About us
DAWN is a Center of Excellence funded by the Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF) and is located at the Niels Bohr Institute (NBI), University of Copenhagen and the Space division of the Danish Technical University (DTU-Space). In addition, DAWN has a number of associates at major research institutes across Europe, North America, and Australia. DAWN brings together experts in all aspects of early universe research and is deeply involved in major existing and upcoming surveys with e.g., JWST, Euclid, HST, ALMA,   as well as simulations.

Tasks
Your primary responsibilities will include supporting the Center Coordinator, Scientific Communication Specialist and Section Secretary with administrative tasks.  

Your duties will include:

  • Collaborating with the Center Coordinator to plan the layout for the 2022 Annual Report, carry out typesetting tasks and produce the hardcopy booklet version of the report. 
  • Supporting the Scientific Communication Specialist with preparing press releases and planning outreach activities. The successful candidate will also help with analyzing and archiving JWST data as necessary.
  • Supporting with the planning of the EUCILD Conference, 23-26 June 2023. Be responsible for pre-preparation of technical tasks including set up and technical equipment support.
  • Other tasks would include designing and producing a staff personnel board.

We expect

  • You are an active student enrolled at an institution of higher education
  • Experience with data management and typesetting
  • Good coordinating skills with a can do attitude
  • Professional skills including automating processes, such a compiling publication lists
  • Experience with Python, (LATEX), C++ and Java

Salary and conditions of employment
You will be employed as administrative officer in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Organizations of Public Employees – governmental institutions (the OAO-S collective agreement) and under the Professional Agreement for clerical employees, laboratory technicians and IT-officers in the state (HK/Stat).

The weekly working time is an average 10 hours.
