We are searching for a highly motivated mass spectrometry specialist to Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research, University of Copenhagen. The specialist will be shared between the Proteomics Platform and Matthias Mann’s research group.

About CPR
Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR) (www.cpr.ku.dk ) was established in 2007 at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, to promote basic and applied research on human proteins of medical relevance. CPR spans broad areas of protein research, ranging from structural and mechanistic understanding of proteins and protein pathways to development of clinical applications of proteomics and systems biology. The Center is structured into five complementary research programs: Proteomics, Protein Structure and Function, Protein Signaling, Disease Systems Biology and Protein Memory, each of which is supported by dedicated technology platforms.

About the Proteomics Platform
The Mass Spectrometry Platform aims to ensure that Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR) retains world-leading mass spectrometry technology in-house, to provide technical support and maintenance for the Proteomics Program, and to provide analytical proteomics support for CPR research groups.

Responsibilities
As a mass spec specialist in Proteomics Platform and Matthias Mann’s group, your main responsibilities will be: 

  • Sample preparation and protein extraction using different protocols from different sample types (i.e. tissue, cell lines, plasma, serum)
  • Maintenance and trouble-shooting on different chromatographic systems: NanoLC (Proxeon), CapillaryLC, normal flow LC

Maintenance, troubleshooting and use of different mass spectrometers: Orbitrap Velos, Q-Exactive HF/X,Exploris 480,Orbitrap Fusion, Orbitrap Lumos ThermoScientific) and TimsTOF instruments (Bruker)

  • Disassembling and cleaning of instruments
  • Clinical application of mass-spectrometry based proteomics
  • Perform mass-spectrometry based proteomics on body fluids at hospitals and you will be responsible for maintaining the instrument daily 
  • Provide on-site repair, maintenance, qualification, testing and validation of advanced mass spectrometers coupled to upstream peptide separation by liquid chromatography (LC):
    This may include: Cleaning of instruments, trouble-shooting, refurbishing, ordering spare-parts and changing instrumental components such as electronic boards and critical mechanical parts of the instrument
  • Perform diagnostics and evaluation of various instruments/methods in collaboration with CPR research groups
  • Responsible for MS and LC services and repair; and for provision of advanced maintenance work 
  • To actively participate in networks with the international research community in general and the Danish research community in particular
  • Coordinate problem resolution with MS and LC developers, customer service, or other personnel to expedite repairs

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person with the following competencies and experience:
Required qualifications:

  • PhD in biochemistry or similar research field 
  • Extensive and proven experience with mass-spectrometry based clinical proteomics 
  • Extensive experience with troubleshooting, cleaning and maintenance of MS instruments
  • Experience in with Bioinformatics systems and programming (e.g R or Python)
  • Evaluation and assessment of the performance of high resolution Orbitrap and Bruker TIMS-TOF instruments
  • Good technology/methodology development record, plus proven and successful experience from laboratories/institutions of high scientific standard
  • Experience with guiding and supervising technical staff
  • Service-minded and team-player

You are also expected to have the following personal qualifications:

  • Good inter-personal communication skills
  • Good English skills, written and spoken

Terms of salary and employment
The employment is a full time, permanent position and will be as special consultant (specialkonsulent), in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.
