Special consultant (AC-TAP) in Globe Institute at Geogenetics

Updated: over 1 year ago
Deadline: 30 Oct 2022

We are looking for a dedicated and technically skilled academic for development of advanced investigation of ancient DNA in environmental samples.

The Section for GeoGenetics at the GLOBE institute offers a busy and stimulating working environment, with a high degree of flexibility and a strong tradition for collaboration. Headed by Prof. Eske Willerslev, the GeoGenetics Center has been world-leading in ancient- and environmental genomics and for over a decade.

Your job
Analysis of DNA from environmental samples has enormous potential for studies in paleo-ecology, climate change, conservation biology etc. However, although metagenomic analyses of eDNA samples is extremely powerful, analysis of rare ancient species (ancient DNA fragments) is technically and computationally challenging. The position is opened to explore various wet lab methods that can alleviate these technical challenges generating genomic- or sub genomic scale data for selected species or taxa.

Profile
We are looking for an enthusiastic academic employee with the following competencies and experience:

  • Relevant academic degree (PhD) within bioscience, or engineering, specialized in wet lab molecular biology, biochemistry, or another relevant topic.
  • Extensive experience with general molecular biology and wet lab procedures, preferably aDNA or eDNA.
  • Extensive experience with high-throughput sequencing.
  • Self-motivated and genuinely interested in methods development.
  • An independent, rational, and pragmatic mindset promoting collaboration and solutions.
  • Knowledge within bioinformatics workflows, linux and NGS data analysis.
  • Highly organized personality with strong attention to detail with demonstrated skills in troubleshooting.
  • Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English (and optionally Danish).

Place of employment
The place of employment is at the University of Copenhagen, GLOBE Institute, GeoGenetics in Central Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment. The GLOBE lab facilities include molecular biology laboratories and dedicated clean lab facilities for aDNA as well as the core facility for high-throughput DNA sequencing (https://globe.ku.dk ).

Terms of salary and employment
The employment is a full time, permanent position and will be as special consultant (specialkonsulent), in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations), with the possibility to negotiate a salary supplement based on prior experiences and qualifications.
