SCIENCE Senior IT Specialist and Science Communicator at the Niels Bohr Institute (NBI)

The Cosmic DAWN Center at Faculty of Science, the University of Copenhagen is looking for a Senior IT Specialist and Science Communicator effective from 16 December 2021 and is for a two-year period.

About us
DAWN is a center of excellence funded by the Danish National Research Foundation, and is located at the Niels Bohr Institute (NBI), University of Copenhagen and at the Space division of the Danish Technical University (DTU-Space).  The center brings together experts in all aspects of early Universe galaxy evolution and is deeply involved in major existing and upcoming surveys with HST, ALMA, Euclid and JWST, as well as cosmological and zoom in simulations

Tasks
For this role, it is vital to have effective written and verbal communication skills. The specialist will work directly with users and will be responsible for managing the development and maintenance of the technical research infrastructure, both for internal use at the Center and for international Associates, to ensure access to business critical data as required. Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Upholding information security practices and procedures to protect data from intrusion or corruption
  • Managing databases, serving large catalogs and other data products
  • Cloud Computing, e.g., CPU and data storage resources hosted at KU and/or external commercial providers (Microsoft, Amazon)
  • Local hardware (e.g., multi-user workstations and/or data storage)
  • Performing periodic data audits and backups to prevent information loss and unauthorized access etc.
  • Managing communications/outreach dimension and events

We expect that you have a scientific background and experience the following areas

  • Managing IT data and information for a general audience and specific products for astronomers, such as data releases and their associated documentation  
  • Managing the outward-facing webpages for scientific centers departments or organizations as well as pages related to research projects and surveys, specifically the EUCLID Prelaunch Key Project
  • Experienced with providing communications on research topics and findings to the Head of Communication at Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF), other funding foundations and the general public  
  • Knowledge of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) activities leading up to the launch scheduled for December 2021, as well as monitoring, managing and reporting of data generated after the launch
  • Managing Social Media platforms and creating scientific content for internal and external websites
  • Collecting and coordinating the scientific presentations and contributions for conferences, workshops and summits

The specialist will have up to 20% of his / her time allocated for personal research separate from the tasks outlined above and must be able to easily move between duties and responsibilities to effectively prioritize and manage own schedules.

Terms of salary and employment
The employment and salary is made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

Employment will be as academic employee. The salary is based on seniority and currently between DKK 26,487.75 and DKK 32,275.92 per month. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working time are 37 hours per week on average. The working hours are flexible.
