Research assistant or postdoctoral researcher for real-life ear-EEG

Are you interested in real-life brain monitoring? We are seeking a research assistant or postdoctoral researcher to advance our ear-EEG recording platforms, to integrate the ear-EEG platforms with other wearable sensing modalities, and to develop and implement real-life experimental paradigms.

Applicants are invited for a 2-year position at the Center for Ear-EEG, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aarhus University. The position is available from 1 April 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description
Ear-EEG enables discreet and unobtrusive monitoring of brain activities from electrodes placed in and around the ear. The vision of ear-EEG is to enable brain monitoring in real-life. Ear-EEG has a wide range of potential applications within health monitoring, brain-computer-interfaces, hearing prosthetic devices, sleep monitoring and consumer products.

We are seeking a research assistant or postdoctoral researcher to advance our ear-EEG recording platforms, to integrate the ear-EEG platforms with other wearable sensing modalities, and to develop and implement real-life experimental paradigms. We are looking for a candidate who has practical experience with biomedical instrumentation, experience with measuring physiological signals, and the patience and persistence it takes to make it work in real-life environments.

The tasks are quite interdisciplinary, and you do not necessarily master all the disciplines; you will become a part of a highly skilled and experienced team of engineers and researchers, and the tasks will be solved in collaboration with the team.

The development of the ear-EEG recording platforms includes electrical instrumentation for dry-contact electrodes and integration with other sensor types. A part of this is also the mechanical design of devices and ear-EEG earpieces, wherefor practical experiences with 3D CAD modelling and 3D printing technologies is an advantage.

The tasks are both related to the general advancement of our ear-EEG recording platform, and also to specific requirements given by a couple of externally funded research projects.

Your profile
Applicants should hold a MSc or PhD degree within Biomedical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering or related fields. The applicant must have a background and interest in instrumentation for recording of physiological signals in real-life environments.

In addition:

  • practical experiences with 3D CAD modelling and 3D printing technologies,
  • recording and analysis of electroencephalography (EEG) signals, and
  • experience with design of neuroscience experiments is an advantage.
The applicant must have good oral and written communications skills and be proficient English speaker.

The center has state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, and an internationally leading group of researchers. Short-listing is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement.

Formalities and salary range
Natural Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
