We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our team at DTU Biosustain n the Bacterial Synthetic Biology section to contribute to an exciting translational project engineering, testing and developing microbiome therapeutics.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your focus will be on providing technical support for the bacterial strain engineering and testing section. You will be part of a dedicated team of scientists working towards developing microbial therapeutics. The work includes assisting with ongoing projects, as well as independently conducting experiments, including:
- cloning and characterization (growth profiling; testing production of heterologous compounds / proteins) of bacteria including E. coli and various gut microbes;
- preparation and analysis of samples from gut microbiome studies;
- quantitative sample analysis assays including ELISA and QPCR;
- documenting experiments using lab management software (Benchling).
In addition, the position requires routine lab duties such as media preparation, maintenance of microbial strains, data documentation and participation in project meetings. The work will involve experiments with bacteria and microbiome samples in a GMO class 1 laboratory environment.
As a formal qualification, you must have a master’s degree in engineering or equivalent degree in life science.
Further you should have previous laboratory experience in at least one of the below mentioned areas:
- Standard microbiology techniques and working in a GMO1 laboratory
- Quantitative assays such as ELISAs, enzyme assays and/or RT-QPCR
- Experience in HPLC/LC-MS, Histology or FACS analysis is a plus

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
This is a full-time position. Period of employment is 9 months.
Starting date is 1st May 2023 or according to mutual agreement.
