At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Chemistry and Bioscience, a part-time position (30 hours/week) as research assistant  in biorefinery of grass is available from 1. September 2021 or soon hereafter and will run until 30 June 2022. The position is located within the Section of Sustainable Biotechnology with working place in Copenhagen.


Job description

The position is a part of the research projects, Grass4Food and GrassProteinFeed, with the overall goal to develop methods to purify proteins and other valuable compounds from grass juice with high yield.

The content of the position for the research assistant will include work with enzymes and different separation technologies such as buffer systems to stabilize juice, coagulation, centrifugation, and filtration. Analytical techniques will be used to monitor the concentration and quality of the proteins and other selected molecules during the different steps of the purification process. Novel methods have to be developed to ensure a high yield of proteins and ingredients.  

The successful applicant must hold an MSc degree in Biotechnology or equivalent education. The candidate should possess practical experience with production and application of enzymes, protein extraction from grass or other leaf materials and analytical methods for protein determination and biomass characterization. Applicants without these qualitfications will not be considered. As the position is part of research projects with different academic and industrial partners, the candidates qualifications should also show good interpersonal and communication skills and team spirit to solve the problems together with the different stakeholders.

The Department of Chemistry and Bioscience consists of five sections of which three are situated in Aalborg with research and teaching in Biotechnology, Applied Chemistry and Biology & Environmental Science, one in Copenhagen on Sustainable Biotechnology and one in Esbjerg on Chemical Engineering. The required level of qualifications is at master level.

Reappointment may be made, but a Research Assistant can only be appointed to Research Assistant for a period of maximum three years. Agreement

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
