The Sustain Lab at the Department of Chemistry of Aarhus University (AU) is seeking a candidate for a postdoctoral position within the field of electrocatalysis and hybrid materials. The position is for two years and will be affiliated with the recently created Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF) CO2 Research Center
Starting date
The position is available from August 1st, 2023, or as soon as possible hereafter.
Tasks
The postdoctoral position aims at developing novel electrocatalytic materials to drive the partial oxidation of methane into methanol. The successful candidate will be involved in the synthesis of hybrid metal-organic materials and their screening in the electrocatalytic oxidation of methane.
Qualifications
The successful applicant will perform research at the interface between electrocatalysis, materials science, and synthetic chemistry. Therefore, the following profile is required:
- The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or similar, with a strong synthetic chemistry and electrochemistry background.
- Experience in materials chemistry, especially in surface characterization techniques, is welcome.
- The ability to work independently and self-motivation are essential characteristics of the successful candidate.

The Sustain Lab works at the interface of synthetic chemistry with materials science, electrochemistry, and photochemistry, to create novel catalytic solutions for clean energy and circular economy. We are affiliated with the Carbon Dioxide Activation Center (CADIAC), the Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO), and the recently created Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF) CO2 Research Center.
The Department of Chemistry at Aarhus University (www.chem.au.dk) is one of the leading European chemistry departments with broad research programs. It has a permanent staff of ~35 full and associate professors, a support staff of ~30 people, ~150 Ph.D. students and postdocs, and around 500 students.

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
