Professorship with special responsibilities in International Political Economy

Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a vacant professorship with special responsibilities in the international political economy, at the Department of Organization.

In announcing a professorship in the area of the international political economy (IPE), the department wishes to strengthen this area of interest with: 1) Research in the area of IPE; 2) Teaching in the area of the IPE and market organization; 3) Collaboration with business and society in relation to the fiscal and financial governance and market organization.

In relation to teaching, the professor is expected to contribute to high-level graduate and post-graduate teaching, both at PhD-courses and at executive programs in IPE and market organization.

The Department of Organization (IOA) pursues a problem-oriented, business in society approach to understanding and intervening in organizations and organizational life. Our research is focused upon organizing processes and their outcomes and driven by an interest in organization and management as a practical, situated, contested and changing matter. Our approach combines social-scientific traditions such as organization theory, sociology, social psychology, ethnography and political economy. Methodologically, our research is predominantly qualitative and often involves case study, fieldwork methodology or social network analysis.

The professorship is time-limited to a period of 5 years with the possibility of extension. The main responsibilities are: a) research in the above mentioned areas that advance the field and lead to international peer-review publications; b) graduate and post-graduate courses related to IPE and market organization, as well as courses and supervision related to the Doctoral Program in Organization and Management Studies; c) external fundraising of research; d) demonstrating strong academic citizenship and leadership; and e) outreach activities and collaboration with external stakeholders and the media related to international political economic issues that promote and advance CBS´ business-in-society strategy.

Successful applicants must have a distinct and relevant academic profile; a strong record of research publications in the advertised field; and strong and extensive teaching experience in the area of IPE and market organization. They must be capable of providing dynamic leadership in the development of ties with industry and society.

To fulfill the research requirements of the position, the applicant chosen is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the teaching and research activities of the Department as well as maintaining and establishing broad links across CBS.


  • Research at high international standard, including responsibility for publishing, scientific communication and research-based teaching. 
  • Communication of knowledge to society, including participation in public debate, sustaining and developing CBS’s role and function for business and society as a whole (with special focus on relevant stakeholders). 
  • Research will include responsibility for the academic development of the discipline. 
  • Research management, initiation and management of research projects, supervision of PhD students, international research co-operation, reviewing academic journals. 
  • Research, including application of funds for financing research activities and the development of the institution. 
  • Research education and further training of researchers, pedagogical consulting and supervision of assistant professors and assessment committee work. 
  • Teaching and associated examination in CBS programs, including Executive Education. 
  • Engagement in development of new, research-based teaching programs. 
  • Actively promote CBS’s academic reputation. 
  • Contribute to administrative responsibilities of the Department and to CBS-wide tasks. 

The present position carries a special responsibility for developing Copenhagen Business School education in the area of IPE and market organization. In addition, the professor is expected to participate in the development of research in their field, including the strengthening of Copenhagen Business School’s national and international network in the area.


The successful applicant must have a strong record of original research publications at an international level as well as substantial teaching experience in the field of the IPE of market organization.

In addition, emphasis will be given to the applicant’s ability to assume research management and other relevant management functions.

Applicants must document pedagogical competences at development and innovation in the pedagogical area.

Furthermore, applicants must have a strong dissemination profile to a broader public.

Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Central Academic association plus an allowance.

At the expiry of the employment as professor with special responsibilities the applicant will continue his/her career as associate professor at the Copenhagen Business School.

  • Recruitment procedure  

    The Recruitment Committee will shortlist minimum two applicants; when possible five or more applicants will be shortlisted. The shortlisted applicants will be assessed by the Assessment Committee. All applicants will be notified of their status in the recruitment process shortly after the application deadline.  

    The applicants selected for assessment will be notified about the composition of the Assessment Committee and later in the process about the result of the assessment.
