Job description

With this professorship the department wants to strengthen Aalborg University’s research within the combined fields of Engineering and Science with the aim of delivering valuable knowledge to support sustainable solutions to societal challenges.

Specifically, we are looking for a Professor within Molecular Engineering of proteins that will lead research within the faculty of Engineering’s described sustainable research focus area: Medical-, Health and welfare Technology. We are seeking a person with a track record of engineering proteins such as antibodies or enzymes. The ideal candidate therefore is expected to document an extensive research background in protein chemistry and engineering of proteins for optimal performance.

The professor is expected to build and lead an internationally recognized research team with within medical biotechnology, promoting close interactions with scientist from local and national hospitals and medical faculties, with the aim of contributing to the translation of basic science to the clinic. Furthermore, visions and plans to expand application of technologies to scientific fields outside medical biotechnology in collaboration with other researchers at Aalborg University with the aim of strengthening the research at AAU in a broader sense is seen as an advantage.

As a professor, you are expected to produce a significant record of publications, and to encourage research achievement and nurture a research culture within the research group. As a professor you are anticipated to be able to secure external research funding and participate actively in research networks.

A professor will be expected to plan and conduct teaching at all university levels. Previous experience with teaching at graduate and undergraduate in relevant topics should be documented. Supervision of students and staff at all levels must be expected, including PhD, post docs and assistant professors. Furthermore, you are expected to contribute to the department management, leadership and development of educational programs through engagement with and participation in department and faculty structures.

The Department of Chemistry and Bioscience consists of two sections spanning two campi in Esbjerg and Aalborg. This position is located in Aalborg.

Qualification requirements

Applicants for the position as professor should have research qualifications corresponding to the level achieved from a successful employment period as associate professor or achieved otherwise. The applicant must document an extensive record of scientific production at an international level (peer-reviewed articles, invited talks) within the research areas outlined above and should be widely recognized in the field (as documented by awards, editorial responsibilities etc.). The applicant should also document a strong record of attracting external funding as principal investigator (PI), as well as experience in supervising Ph.D. students and postdocs. Special contributions to and development of educational and teaching related areas will be considered in the overall assessment.

Agreement

Appointment and salary acc. to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State. Employment as Professor is in accordance with a classified position on scale 37. In addition, a pensionable increment will be given.
