Postdoctoral positions Protein signaling in genome maintenance

Updated: almost 2 years ago
Deadline: 08 Jun 2022

Two fully funded postdoctoral positions with a duration of two years are available in the Mailand Group at Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR – www.cpr.ku.dk ), University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Starting date 15 September 2022 or after agreement.

Mailand Group at CPR
CPR promotes basic and applied discovery research on human proteins of medical relevance. The Center is a strong hub for cutting-edge research on protein signaling and human disease, comprising excellence and state-of-the-art facilities within multiple areas of protein science. Research in the Mailand Group aims to understand how signaling processes driven by ubiquitin, SUMO and other post-translational protein modifications function in genome maintenance processes that underpin cell fitness. We combine system-wide CRISPR screening- and proteomics-based approaches with a broad panel of targeted methodologies within cell biology, biochemistry and advanced microscopy to chart cellular signaling processes and characterize their functional significance and mechanistic underpinnings. We offer a vibrant, ambitious and highly international research environment, as well as access to cutting-edge facilities within protein science, including state-of-the-art proteomics and microscopy platforms.

Job description and project
Research in our lab revealed important roles of ubiquitin- and SUMO-mediated signaling in preventing genome instability at many levels. Utilizing a streamlined pipeline for genome-scale pooled CRISPR-Cas9 screening, the projects aim to deepen our insights into the organization and biological functions of ubiquitin and SUMO signaling networks by systematically exploring their roles in genome stability maintenance and cellular stress responses. We are also interested in how ubiquitin- and SUMO-mediated signaling promote host cell responses to viral attacks. Where relevant, CRISPR screening approaches will be complemented by mass spectrometry-based proteomic analyses. The biological functions and mechanistic basis of screen findings will be investigated by means of a wide range of approaches within cell and molecular biology, biochemistry and protein imaging that are established in our lab. The successful candidates will also have an opportunity to take part in ongoing efforts to further develop and innovate our CRISPR-Cas9 screening platform to broaden its application as a powerful discovery tool in multiple aspects of cell biology.

Qualifications
We are looking for highly motivated and ambitious candidates with:

  • A PhD degree in a relevant biological subject (e.g. genome stability, cell cycle, ubiquitin/SUMO, protein signaling, chromatin, virology or related). If the PhD has not been completed, a written statement from the PhD supervisor should be provided.
  • Solid experience in methodologies within cell and molecular biology, microscopy, protein biochemistry and/or bioinformatics.
  • A documented publication record, preferentially with at least one first author paper in an international peer-reviewed biological journal.
  • An open-minded and enthusiastic personality.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and sound command of English, both oral and written.

Terms of employment
The employment as postdoc is a full time and fixed-term position for 2 years. Starting date is 15 September 2022 or after agreement.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Currently, the monthly salary starts at 35,600 DKK/approx. 4,780 EUR (April 2022-level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark during the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
