Postdoctoral Fellow in Peptide and Protein Chemistry

Updated: over 1 year ago
Deadline: 21 Aug 2022

One postdoctoral fellow position in peptide and protein chemistry is available in the group of Associate Professor Jasmin Mecinovic at the Department of Physics and Chemistry , University of Southern Denmark.

Application deadline: 21 August 2022.

Starting date of the position will be 1 December 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Epigenetics most often refer to processes, such as enzymatic modifications of DNA and numerous posttranslational modifications of the associated histone proteins that lead to the transfer of genetic information from generation to generation, without changes in the underlying sequence of DNA. To understand the enormous intricacy of the epigenetic language, it is necessary to deepen our knowledge, at the atomic level, of biomolecular recognition and biocatalysis of posttranslational modifications of histones.

The research in Mecinovic group applies chemical principles and techniques to understand the underlying molecular origin of fundamental biomolecular processes that play essential roles in human health and disease. As a postdoctoral fellow, you will work on a Novo Nordisk Fonden-funded project aimed at developing fully synthetic methods for preparation of epigenetic proteins that enable detailed mechanistic studies on epigenetic biomolecular recognition and biocatalysis. You will apply modern bioorganic chemistry and chemical biology approaches, ranging from peptide and protein synthesis to binding and enzyme assays, in investigations of biologically important posttranslational modifications on histone proteins. A candidate with strong experimental skills in solid phase peptide synthesis and native chemical ligation will be preferred. The successful candidate will receive excellent mentoring and career development support.

Specific Requirements

• PhD in bioorganic chemistry or chemical biology
• Experience with peptide and protein chemistry
• Experience with native chemical ligation
• Strong motivation and interest in working at the interface between chemistry and biology
• Excellent skills in written and spoken English.
