Postdocs (2) with Biocatalysis Expertise

Updated: over 2 years ago
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

DTU Chemical Engineering are seeking two postdocs (one biotech-based and the other bioprocess-based) to work at our department.

Our ambition is to develop new techniques for the assessment of enzyme stability as part of an ERC Advanced Grant (FLUIZYME). You will be part of a team composed of postdocs, PhD students, master students and a technician, but have an instrumental role in this challenging and exciting project.

Biocatalysis has developed enormously in recent years and is now at the point of scale-up for very many processes across different industries (from pharmaceuticals to bulk chemicals). The issue of enzyme stability is one of the remaining challenges to implementing sustainable bioprocesses for the future, and is the focus of FLUIZYME.

The positions:
The first position is more suited to a person with a biotech background and you will:

  • Develop protein and enzyme assessment methods at a molecular level.
  • Develop novel techniques for examining gas-liquid and liquid-liquid interfaces and their effect on proteins at the molecular level.
  • Develop models to describe interfacial phenomena at the molecular level.
  • Support and train PhD and masters students in laboratory techniques.

The second position is more suited to a person with a bioprocess background and you will:

  • Develop protein and enzyme assessment methods suitable for laboratory and pilot scale application.
  • Develop novel laboratory protocols to conduct biocatalysis in the presence of gas-liquid interface and liquid-liquid interfaces.
  • Develop pilot-scale protocols to test the effect of gas-liquid and liquid-liquid interfaces on protein and enzyme stability.
  • Develop models to describe interfacial phenomena at laboratory and pilot-scale.
  • Support and train PhD and masters students in laboratory and pilot techniques.

We are looking for two excellent postdocs with a specialization in biocatalysis and enzyme-based work) with preferably several years practical experience either in industry or a research environment.

We value that you:

  • Have and excellent knowledge of biotechnology and/or bioprocesses.
  • Have experience with biocatalysis and enzymes.
  • Are a person with a positive mindset and with very good planning, prioritizing and organizational skills.
  • Are an excellent team worker.
  • Are a curious person with a genuine interest in research and solving challenging theoretical and practical problems.
  • Are fluent in English

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
