Postdoc within Microbial functionality in food and gut

Department of Food Science, University of Copenhagen, is recognized for excellence in food research, food science education, and industry collaboration. It covers all disciplines of food science from raw materials to processing and consumption, and is organized in four sections, one of which is the section for “Food Microbiology and Fermentation”, where the position is placed. The use of microorganisms for improving the nutritional value of plant based raw materials is a growing research area for the section. Furthermore, the effect of diet on the gut microbiome and its influence on health and disease continue to be a focus point for the section. The post doc will conduct research within both areas with primary focus on high throughput-sequencing data, bioinformatics and data integration.

The position is open from 1st January 2022or as soon as possible thereafter for 2 years with possibility for prolongation of the contract.

Preferred qualifications

The preferred candidate holds a PhD within microbiology or related research fields and has strong experience within microbiome research, whole genome sequencing, bioinformatics and data integration. The position will combine wet-lab work with bioinformatics and the ideal candidate will have strong experience with both. Furthermore, it is expected that the candidate has strong qualifications within several of the following areas:

  • High throughput sequencing incl. metagenome analysis
  • Whole genome sequencing analysis
  • Multivariate data analysis/data integration
  • Bioinformatics with strong knowledge of R and preferably also languages like Python
