Postdoc or research assistant position in software development for digital twin of robotic 3D printing - DTU Wind

Updated: 7 months ago
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

Are you interested in contributing to the development of digital twin software for additive manufacturing (AM) of large-scale fiber composite structures?

If so, the Department of Wind and Energy Systems, Division of Materials and Components invites applicants for a postdoc or research assistant position in the area of a digital twin for robotic 3D printing of continuous fiber composites (CFCs).

Responsibilities and qualifications
The research position is part of a project funded by the Innovation Fund Denmark, which seeks to develop digital twin software that will enable virtual manufacturing for 3D printing CFC structures. The successful applicant will be a member of a larger team of university researchers working closely together with the major companies during this project, which include robotic 3D printing solution providers and end users.

The research position aims at advancing the state of the art in the area of digital manufacturing of large-scale CFC structures. The main objective of the project is to develop a new curvilinear slicing software and control software and integrate them with a numerical model to build a digital twin of the robotic printing process.

Your primary responsibilities and tasks will be to:

  • Develop a slicing software for 3D printing of curvilinear CFC structures
  • Integrate the slicing software with robot control software to build a digital twin of robotic 3D printing.
  • Optimize the digital twin for different manufacturing process parameters, printing methods and materials.
  • Disseminate the results in peer-reviewed journals.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) for the Postdoc position or a MSc degree for the research assistant position. Furthermore, strong English communication skills are essential. Applicants should be highly motivated, ambitious, eager to seek and share knowledge, willing and able to work as part of a team as well as through interdisciplinary collaboration with industrial partners.

More specifically, you should have the following qualifications:

  • Experience in software development, programming with Python, C++, etc.
  • Good/strong knowledge of robotic control and virtual manufacturing simulation
  • Experience in 3D printing processes and fiber-reinforced polymer composite materials is a plus.
