Postdoc of Astronomy

Updated: about 1 month ago
Deadline: 01 Nov 2023

Applicants are invited for 1-2 postdoctoral (2-3 year) research positions in extragalactic stellar streams in the new group of Sarah Pearson at DARK, Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen. The positions are part of the larger project: “Decoding Dark Matter with Stellar Streams from Beyond the Milky Way”. The start date is between 1 September - 1 December 2024.

Candidates with a strong background in computational astrophysics and/or galactic dynamics are encouraged to apply. Specific experience with Nbody codes is considered a strong asset. Other assets could be experience analyzing large-scale or zoom-in cosmological simulations. Possible projects include: i) Measure dark matter properties from statistical stream samples; ii) Theoretical constraints on dark matter substructure in dwarf galaxies; iii) N-body modeling of stellar streams in dwarf galaxies; iv) statistical model-to-data comparison for globular cluster stream gaps within various dark matter frameworks. Postdoctoral researchers are encouraged to develop ownership of their projects and will receive support to travel to international conferences, and visit collaborators

DARK’s areas of research include, but are not limited to: observations, simulations and theory of astrophysical transients and cosmic explosions (including tidal disruption events and supernovae), neutrino astrophysics, high-redshift galaxies, fundamental cosmology, dark matter and dark energy, black holes and AGN, and cosmic dust.

DARK is committed to excellence through diversity and strives to establish a climate that welcomes, celebrates, and promotes respect for the contributions of all students and employees. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to background, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or age.
