At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Materials and Production (Section for Production), a postdoc position in Smart Production is available from February 1st, 2023 or soon thereafter. The position is available for a period of 2 years.


Job description

Department of Materials and Production (MP) has a wide-ranging research and educational environment at Aalborg University. The Department's mission is to meet the future's demands for new materials and production systems by directing the whole value chain from basic material understanding, materials' applications in mechanical constructions, industrial production and management. The department has several strong, international and innovative research groups which comprise everything from basic science to strategic and applicable research. The activities encompass research as well as education within materials, mechanics, physics, production technique, and industrial management and innovation. Benefitting the industry and additional collaborators several innovative and unconventional collaborations have been and are developed through interdisciplinary co-operations. Thereby, as an employee at the Department you will become a part of an international research environment, where focus is on innovation, knowledge sharing/building and interdisciplinary collaborations.

The postdoc is part of the new MADE FAST research and innovation program. MADE is a national collaboration platform across universities, industry and RTO’s. MADE FAST is funded by Innovation Fund Denmark, industry and universities. The research will be conducted in close collaboration with the industrial partners in MADE FAST. We are looking for a candidate to a workstream that address execution and optimization of the entire end-to-end value chain, and the goal is to address the following problems: 1) How to create the foundation and data platform as well as new collaboration methods; 2) How to manage complexity in operations and supply chains; and 3) How to develop new solutions by iterative exploration through joint industrial demonstrators.

The specific project is carried out in collaboration with Arla (https://www.arla.dk/) and is focused on supporting their continued journey of digitalizing their operations and supply chains. The expectations are that the candidate contribute with an action-based approach focused on developing and testing research concepts in real life and also considering scaling issues in the organization.

The specific project builds on Arla’s IoT data-hub and seek to “Democratizing Data Science”, by enabling business end-users with advanced analytical capabilities.

As a successful candidate you will participate in education, academic and collaborative research activities in the production section and with external partners. The research covered by these positions will all be within the area of smart production.

In this position a main industrial partner is specified, but the candidate will also be linked to a unique network of MADE consortium partners and the overall MADE platform consisting of more than 50 industrial researchers (https://www.made.dk/). Work will be split between the main industrial partner and AAU and physical presence is expected in both places, which also means that travelling should be expected.

Limited teaching within the area can be expected, but also in other study programmes at the University.

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
