A 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in microbial ecology is available in the Microbial Interactions Research Group at the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The position commences 1 July 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The postdoctoral fellow will be part of a cross-institutional project with collaborators from Terrestrial Ecology Section, University of Copenhagen and Entomology and Plant Pathology Section, Aarhus University. The project aims to decipher the interactions between microorganisms and nematodes, and the impact of the microorganisms on nematode infection potential on plant roots. In addition, the project seeks to identify key microorganism and determine their mode of action through isolation and characterization.
The postdoc’s duties will include research within the project as well as teaching and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students. The successful applicant will be involved in:
- Characterization of the nematode microbiome using amplicon sequencing and shotgun metagenomics bioinformatics analyses
- Development of isolation approaches to target microorganisms relevant to the interaction with the nematode
- Selection and isolation of bacterial strains from nematode cuticles that can decrease the infection rate on roots from nematodes
- Participation in the acquisition of external funding
- Participate in teaching activities at the department including the supervision of BSc and MSc students
It is expected that the candidate disseminate the findings through peer-reviewed journals, conference papers and to the public through popular science channels or similar.
