Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 24 Mar 2023

We are seeking applicants for a postdoc position in ‘MicroRNA homeostasis during tumorigenesis’ to join us at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics in the Xavier Bofill De Ros lab.

Expected start date and duration of employment

The position is available from 1st of July 2023 or as soon as possible.

The position will be available for 4 years.

Job description

We are looking for applicants with interests in the biogenesis and turnover of microRNAs and its relationship to gene expression regulation during tumorigensis. Applied methods range from biophysical over biochemical to molecular biology and bioinformatics approaches.

These activities will be in close collaboration with structural biologists and physicists.

Your profile

Applicants should hold a PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genomics, Pharmacy or related fields.

REQUIRED: At least 1 recommendation letter.

Applicants should be self-driven, motivated and capable of planning and conducting independent research while being willing to collaborate in an international and interdisciplinary team. Good communication skills in written and spoken English language are essential, and applicants should have a strong publication record with clear contributions as first author.

Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Extraction of total RNA and RNA-immunoprecipitation from cell and tissue extracts
  • Analysis of microRNA expression in cell and tissue lysates by Northern blot
  • Analysis of gene and protein expression in cell and tissue lysates RT-qPCR and Western blot.
  • Data analysis of NGS datasets such as miRNA-seq, RNA-seq and similars
  • Proximity labelling proteomics (eg. APEX, BioID)
  • Functional CRISPR-based screening
  • Immunochemistry and immunofluorescence
  • Confocal microscopy
  • Animal experimentation (colony management, experimental mattings, tissue harvests, injections, small animal procedures)
  • Preparation of manuscripts, animal ethics applications and grant applications
  • Contribute to mentoring of junior members of the team

Who we are

Projects are carried out in the Bofill De Ros lab. The laboratory consists of a dynamic mix of experimental and computational biologists aiming to examine how the dysregulation on molecular mechanisms involved in microRNA homeostasis impact tumour development.

What we offer

The department offers:

  • a well-developed research infrastructure, laboratories and access to shared equipment
  • an exciting interdisciplinary environment with many national, international collaborators
  • a research climate encouraging lively, open and critical discussion within and across different fields of research
  • a workplace characterised by professionalism, equality and a healthy work-life balance.

Place of work and area of employment
