Postdoc in “in Molecular Microbial Ecology”

Updated: about 1 year ago
Deadline: 13 Feb 2023

A postdoc position (2 years) is open in the Environmental Microbiology Research Group at the Section for Microbial Ecology and Biotechnology at the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences. The research activity will focus on molecular microbial ecology in relation to the environmental dimension of antibiotic resistance, water treatment processes and sustainable agriculture. The postdoc will be funded by two research projects: REWA (https://www.oulu.fi/en/projects/reduction-and-assessment-antimicrobial-resistance-and-emerging-pollutants-natural-based-water ) and SoildiverAgro (http://soildiveragro.eu/ ). REWA will cover funding for around 1.5 years of postdoc work that will focus on water treatment processes in relation to contaminants of emerging concern (especially antimicrobial compounds, antibiotic resistance genes and pathogenic bacteria) with Aeromonas spp as a chosen indicator group. SoildiverAgro will cover funding for around 0.5 year of postdoc work that will focus on agricultural soil microbiomes across contrasting pedoclimatic regions in Europe.

Job description

The postdoc’s duties will primarily include research within molecular microbial ecology as well as teaching and co-supervision of PhD and MSc students. The postdoc will also assist with administrative tasks related to the two projects funding the postdoc position (e.g. writing of draft reports to funding agencies), laboratory management and outreach activities.
