Postdoc in Enzyme Bioinformatics and Novel Assay Methods

A two-year postdoc position in Enzyme Discovery and Assay Method Development for Complex Substrates and Protein Mobilization in Plant-based Foods is available in the Enzyme Technology Group, Section Protein Chemistry and Enzyme Technology, Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine. The position will be available from November 15. 2021.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The successful candidate is an innovative enzyme scientist with experience in bioinformatics, recombinant enzyme production, and use of innovative enzyme assay methods. The postdoc will be a part of a team that develops the enzymology insight and investigative methodologies for understanding and harnessing enzymes acting on complex substrates.  A particular focus is on exploring solid-state fermentation reactions for protein mobilization and transformation in new plant-based foods in the new project PROFERMENT, a Challenge Program project granted by the Novo Nordisk Foundation within the subject Proteins for Tomorrow’s Food. The postdoc position will also be a part of the Department’s lighthouse ‘Enzyme Discovery and Engineering’ targeting computational enzymology, enzyme engineering, and assay methods development for new reactions and new sustainable applications.              

We are looking for a candidate having an innovative mindset and the following qualifications:

  • The candidate must hold a PhD degree in biological engineering, enzyme technology or a related discipline (candidates that are nearing the completion of their PhD may apply)
  • The candidate should have documented experience with advanced bioinformatics of relevance for enzyme discovery, as well as experience with recombinant protein expression, and protein purification
  • The candidate must have broad experience and keen interest in enzymology methods, notably development of novel assay methods
  • The candidate should demonstrate evidence of innovative, independent research capability and good problem-solving skills
  • The candidate should have a track record of publication with at least one first-author paper within the field of enzymology in an internationally recognized, peer-reviewed journal
  • The candidate should have excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken)

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is two years.
