At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, AAU Energy, a position as Postdoc in “Digitalization and IoT for Minigrid Clusters” is open for appointment from January 1st 2022 to December 31st 2023 or soon hereafter. Job description

The position is offered in relation to the research program "Microgrids" and the Postdoc will be positioned to the Section A - Electric Power Systems and Microgrids.

The candidate will be working in a research project entitled “Renewable Energy based Minigrid Clusters in Ethiopia – REMCE“ , funded by Danida Fellowship Centre and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. The project aims at developing multiple minigrid clusters in order to integrate unprecedented levels of renewable energy in rural areas of Ethiopia. LoRaWan- and nanosat-based communications framework will be considered to coordinate and control multiple minigrid clusters.

The research is a cross-disciplinary domain which requires that the candidate has a very solid knowledge on IoT protocols, communication technologies, blockchain consensus mechanisms, decentralized microgrid control frameworks applied to renewable energy based minigrid clusters. Experience in project management with African countries would be an advantage. Knowledge on LoRaWan- and nanosat-based communications and experience with real-time dspace platforms are also preferred.

The candidate is also expected to have a strong publication record in reputed journals and experience in teaching. Teaching activities within the position include preparation of courses, cosupervision primarily at MSc and PhD levels and secondarily in other study programs at the University. Ability to work and communicate well as part of a team is essential.

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
