Postdoc in acute myeloid leukaemia drug resistance mechanisms at Biotech Research & Innovation Centre (BRIC)

We are offering a postdoc fellowship for studying drug resistance mechanisms in acute myeloid leukaemia in the Wennerberg group at BRIC, University of Copenhagen. The postdoc position is to commence on 1 May 2022 or as soon as possible hereafter.

Our research
The Wennerberg group focuses on identifying new effective precision cancer therapies. This is done with a systems-driven approach where we combine chemical biology, phenotypic profiling, functional genomics, molecular profiling and informatics to gain understanding of individual cancers, their drug sensitivity and resistance mechanisms and how these may be targeted. Our ultimate goal is that our results will lay the foundation for new types of cures for individual and subsequently larger groups of cancer patients.

Your job
We are seeking a postdoc to study mechanisms of drug resistance in acute myeloid leukaemia. A particular focus will be studying drug resistance in cells from patients treated with the pro-apoptotic drug venetoclax. Using high throughput flow cytometry drug response profiling, phenotypic and biochemical analyses, molecular profiling, long-term cultures and animal models, you will explore drug resistance mechanisms and resistance-associated treatment vulnerabilities to identify new ways to treat venetoclax-resistant acute myeloid leukaemia. The ultimate goal is that these new therapeutic strategies will be validated in clinical trials. To accomplish this, you will be collaborating with other members of the Wennerberg group, technology experts, other research groups (both at BRIC and internationally) and local and Nordic clinical haematologists.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

• A PhD in Life Sciences or equivalent
• An excellent research and publication track record
• An analytical mindset and experience with handling large-scale complex datasets
• Expertise in flow cytometry
• A passion for translational haematology research
• A team player with leadership skills
• Proficient communication skills
• Excellent English skills, written and spoken

Place of employment
The place of employment is at BRIC, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Terms of employment
The employment as postdoc is a full time and fixed-term position for 3 years. Starting date is 1 May 2022 or after agreement.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 35,000 DKK/approx. 4,700 EUR (October 2021 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
