Are you enthusiastic about basic pain research? At Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain (CNAP), Department of Health Science and Technology, the Faculty of Medicine, one or more position(s) as Postdoc at Center for Neuroplasticity and Pain (CNAP) are open for appointment from March 1, 2021 or soon hereafter. The position is available for a period of 2 years.
Who are we?
CNAP is a basic research Center of Excellence established by the Danish National Research Foundation at Aalborg University, Denmark (www.cnap.hst.aau.dk). We do frontline fundamental research to identify novel mechanisms involved in the dynamics of pain neuroplasticity and advance the understandings of this topic. The mechanisms of pain neuroplasticity may include neuronal reorganisation, increased/decreased gain of signal transduction or transmission, altered neuronal receptor functions, or changes across the pain system. CNAP applies a basic research approach to study novel aspects of the human pain neuroplasticity, using an interdisciplinary neuro-engineering and neuroscience approach. We believe that this approach, including provoking, probing, and modulation of the dynamic neuroplastic properties of the pain system over time will foster new fundamental discoveries and change the state of the art.
CNAP is particularly interested in recruiting a candidate with expertise in human experimental musculoskeletal pain research and related advanced pain mechanisms relevant for probing pain neuroplasticity. Experience applying quantitative sensory testing techniques, using non-invasive brain stimulation, and studying both human experimental pain models and clinical pain populations will be highly sought after. The position entails design, execution, analysis, and compiling of human experimental/clinical trials with the aim of achieving new neuroscientific discoveries.
CNAP is an international research center with approximately 60% of our staff from outside of Denmark and an almost 50%-50% gender balance. Our world class lab facilities enable advanced quantitative sensory/pain testing, application of advanced neurophysiological techniques, and bio-medical techniques in animal models and humans. The Postdoc will have the opportunity to teach within the different study programmes at the Department, incl. Medicine, Medicine with Industrial Specialisation, Biomedical Engineering and Informatics, and Pain Science and Multidisciplinary Pain Management.
CNAP is affiliated to the Department of Health Science and Technology, the Faculty of Medicine, that does multidisciplinary research and teaching in the area of health science and technology. The department has more than 250 employees and is responsible for more than 1700 students. More than 100 PhD students are enrolled in the doctoral school affiliated to the department
Who are you?
You are a committed candidate with a PhD (or equivalent) in biomedical engineering, medicine, neuroscience, pharmacology or similar. You must have experience with human experimental laboratory work (e.g. psychophysical sensory assessment of pain mechanisms, non-invasive brain stimulation, experimental pain models, clinical pain assessment) and research experience in the field of pain.
It is necessary that you have a high proficiency in oral and written English, as English is our working language.
The position includes an attractive salary with experimental running costs, a well-equipped office and laboratory facilities. CNAP also provides assistance to relocate to Aalborg, Denmark. Please find more information about working at Aalborg University, living in Denmark etc. at the homepage of Aalborg University’s International Staff Unit: www.isu.aau.dk.
You may obtain further professional information at www.cnap.hst.aau.dk or from Professor Thomas Graven-Nielsen, e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
The application must contain the following:
- A motivated text wherein the reasons for applying, qualifications in relation to the position, and intentions and visions for the position are stated.
- A current curriculum vitae.
- Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
- Scientific qualifications. A complete list of publications must be attached with an indication of the works the applicant wishes to be considered. You may attach up to 5 publications.
- Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organisations and the like.
- Additional qualifications in relation to the position. References/recommendations.
- Personal data.
The applications are only to be submitted online by using the "Apply online" button below. An assessment committee will assess all candidates.
AAU wishes to reflect the diversity of society and welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background or belief.
