We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Platform Manager to develop and manage our Rodent Metabolic Phenotyping Platform (RMPP) that supports in vivo rodent metabolic research at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) by providing access to state-of-the-art equipment, training, expertise, and services.

Your job
As a Platform Manager of RMPP, you will be managing a team of four specialists and three animal technicians. You will play an important role in developing the platform while working in close collaboration with Platform Coordinator Associate Professor Jonas Treebak, the Platform Steering Group, and platform staff. Management tasks will occur at various levels including staff management, project and facility management, and management at an organizational level. The balance of the tasks will depend on the profile of the candidate.

Key responsibilities 

  • Management and development of platform staff
  • Coordination and prioritization of platform projects and tasks
  • Implementation of software solutions for facility management procedures including bookings, data management, user statistics, and SOP handling
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between platform staff, animal caretakers, platform users, service collaborators, and leadership
  • Develop and implement training programs and support for researchers, technicians, and students on the use of equipment and experimental procedures
  • Contribute to the development of quality control- and standardization procedures for platform services
  • Optimize and continuously evaluate the allocation and usage of space in animal facilities.
  • Lead short and long-term expansion and development plans for the facility space
  • Support researchers to obtain/extend/amend animal licenses and facilitate contact to the Danish Animal Experiments Inspectorate
  • Identify and promote 3Rs initiatives to improve animal welfare
  • Ensure implementation of new experimental procedures and technologies together with the Platform Coordinator

Our researchers share a common purpose to transform the basic understanding of the mechanisms that underlie metabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge towards new prevention and treatment strategies. The Center was established in 2010, and in 2017 we moved into new laboratories and offices in the Maersk Tower www.maersktower.ku.dk . CBMR has 260 employees, consisting of 5 technology platforms and 21 research groups who work in a vibrant international research environment with a focus on interdisciplinary research. The Platform
The Rodent Metabolic Phenotyping Platform is an integral part of CBMR. It is a rodent in vivo metabolic phenotyping unit that serves to support Center scientists in performing high quality in vivo studies. We are currently developing RMPP by expanding the team and facilities, and by broadening the operations and activities to ensure access to state-of-the-art equipment, training programs, experimental expertise etc. Learn more about the platform here .

Your profile

  • The successful candidate has experience with project and team management, a master or PhD degree in a physiological, biological, or veterinary sciences-related discipline and/or business administration
  • Solid hands-on and theoretical expertise in rodent in vivo experiments, preferably including metabolic phenotyping techniques
  • Proven experience in training, supervision, and mentoring
  • Approved FELASA C/function ABD course or a similar course, with permission to obtain independent license from the Danish Animal Experiments Inspectorate
  • Solid knowledge within national regulations of animal experiments, 3R, ethics, and welfare
  • Solid experience in data management, calculations, statistics, and data presentation
  • Strong problem-solving skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently
  • A service-minded and team-player attitude
  • A structured mind-set and a pronounced organizational talent
  • Good communication skills in both written and spoken English

Place of employment
The place of employment is the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

Terms of salary and employment
The employment as Platform Manager, positioned as Chief Consultant (“Chefkonsulent med personaleledelse”), is a full time and permanent position. Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) with a possibility to negotiate supplements due to qualifications and experience.
