Platform Manager for the Metabolomics Platform

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled Platform Manager to develop and manage the Metabolomics Platform to commence November 1, 2022, or after agreement, at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, University of Copenhagen.

The successful candidate will work in the Metabolic Platform that provides the Center’s researchers with targeted and untargeted metabolomics analyses, as well as lipidomics analysis.

As a Platform Manager in the Metabolomics Platform, you will be coordinating a team of specialists and technicians as well as be responsible for the day-to-day project coordination. You will play an important role in developing the platform while working in close collaboration with Professor Thomas Moritz and key platform scientists.

The job spans over facility management, organization, people, and projects. The balance of the tasks will depend on the profile of the candidate.

  • Platform management.
  • Coordination, prioritization and planning of projects and tasks
  • Implementation of facility management procedures and software solutions including equipment/service booking systems, usage tracking, data management solutions, SOP handling, user satisfaction surveys, emergency plans for equipment breakdown
  • Ensure good communication and collaboration between platform staff, platform users, service collaborators, and leadership
  • Optimization of the physical frames and usage of the current facility
  • Preparation and implementation of short and long-term expansion and development plans for the facility
  • Ensure implementation of new experimental procedures and technologies

Our researchers share a common purpose as they seek to transform the basic understanding of the mechanisms that underlie metabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge toward new prevention and treatment strategies. The Center was established in 2010 and in 2017, we moved into new laboratories, offices, and meeting rooms in the Maersk Tower www.maersktower.ku.dk .

The Center has around 260 employees, consisting of 21 research groups and 5 technology platforms, who work in a vibrant international research environment with a focus on interdisciplinary collaboration. The Center’s research has resulted in seminal discoveries as to how genes, hormones, and environmental factors influence metabolic health and disease throughout life. The Metabolomics Platform is an integral part of the Center and was established in 2019. The Platform offer experimental and computational services, and assistance with project planning of metabolomics-based projects on a case-by-case basis, as they will be depending on the biological system and question. We find that in-house expertise

and services help our scientists streamline their research, so they can achieve their research goals faster. The Platform team comprises laboratory technicians and specialists and is headed by Professor Thomas Moritz.

Essential criteria

  • The successful candidate has experience with project and team management, a PhD degree or equivalent in a biological or chemical sciences-related discipline
  • Experience/interest in metabolomics
  • Strong problem-solving skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently
  • Proven experience in training and supervision
  • A service-minded and team player attitude
  • A structured mind-set and a pronounced organizational talent
  • Good communication skills in both written and spoken English

Other aspects that would be considered a plus:

  • Experience/interest in analytical chemistry
  • Experience/interest in mass spectrometry-based analyses
  • Experience in data management, statistics, and data presentation

The place of employment is the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

The employment as Platform Manager, positioned as special consultant (“Specialkonsulent”), is a full time and permanent position The start date is November 1, 2022, or after agreement. Employment will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) with a possibility to negotiate supplements due to qualifications and experience.
