Pilot Plant Manager

The Department of Food Science, Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen invites applications for a position as Pilot Plant Manager from 1 April 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is for two years with the possibility of permanent employment.

The Department of Food Science is recognized for excellence in food research, education, and industrial collaboration. The Department's research areas share the mission to contribute with new solutions for society and industry to support sustainable food production, food security and safety as well as production of high quality food promoting human health and wellbeing. The Department is an international workplace with English as primary working language. The Pilot Plant Manager will be part of the Section for Ingredients and Dairy Technology, which conducts basic and applied inter-disciplinary research in close collaboration with industry and actively contributes to teaching at the BSc in Food Science and the MSc in Food Science and Technology.

We seek a candidate with a BEng (diplomingeniør) within process technology or engineering or equivalent education, to manage and operate our pilot plant facilities within mainly dairy and food processing. The pilot plant facilities are used for research and teaching. The appointed candidate is expected to take part in the daily operation, coordination, and planning of the use of the facilities as well as provide practical introduction, instruction and support to researchers and students in dairy and food processing and assisting during the operation of our pilot plant brewery. The successful candidate should be able to work independently, have a strong technical background, and should be able to undertake basic maintenance and troubleshooting of the pilot plant. The appointed candidate is expected to participate in various research projects and teaching activities, and will have extensive collaboration with researchers, teachers, students and external partners.

Qualifications in the following areas should be described in the application:

  • Experience from pilot plant management and/or food processing industry
  • Operational experience of running a pilot plant and CIP procedures.
  • Knowledge of hygiene and quality requirements for food grade production.
  • A collaborative and innovative mindset with a good ability to manage and support activities of multiple pilot plant users.

The successful candidate will be part of an internationally oriented and enthusiastic section currently consisting of 4 full professors, 7 associate professors, 7 assistant professors and post docs and more than 10 PhD candidates as well as highly skilled laboratory technicians. The section has at its disposal various pilot plant facilities and advanced analytical infrastructure.

Terms of employment and salary can be negotiated depending on the chosen candidate.
