The Department of Science Education is one of 12 departments in the Faculty of Science. We currently have about 50 employees in three sections. You will be attached to the section for History and Philosophy of Science, where we work with epistemological, ethical, and historical aspects of science and mathematics. The section has an extended collaboration with the Niels Bohr Archive.

Job description
We seek a research assistant for Richard Staley, professor in History of Science at the Department of Science Education.  The research assistant’s primary task will be to provide editorial assistance for the journal Physics in Perspective. Working under the direction of Editors in Chief Joseph Martin and Prof. Richard Staley and housed at the Niels Bohr Archive and Department of Science Education, the RA will be expected to process initial submission, provide copy editing for accepted manuscripts, and communicate with submitting authors. The processing of manuscripts will be conducted in liaison with the Editors. The position will provide experience valuable for further work in academic research and editorial publishing careers.

The appointee may also provide research assistance in the history of physics.

Working hours are flexible but amount to 6-8 hours a week for up to 2,5 years. Distance working may to some extent be an option.

About you

Copyediting will require a good command of academic writing in English.

To hold a position as research assistant you are as a minimum required to hold a master’s degree. A background in the history and philosophy of physics is desirable but not essential. Previous experience in editorial work is desirable but not essential.

Terms of employment

The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.

Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.

Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
