We are currently seeking a part-time assistant to support prototype development for chemical sensors. You will join the Sensors & Functional Materials team, which works within the field of material chemistry and functional porous materials, not limited to but with a large focus on chemical sensing and separations. We have recently demonstrated proof-of-concept for sensing dissolved methane for environmental monitoring of abandoned oil and gas wells. Now we want to take the sensor to the next level and build a functional prototype. Here we need someone who can assist and help us with design, planning, hardware implementation, programming and 3D-printing of prototype parts.
The job
You will, under supervision, assist with prototype manufacturing, where the focus will lie on hardware implementation and interface using Python programming. Tasks include (but not limited to):
- Source, purchase and implement technological components.
- Integrate electronic components into autonomous devices.
- Design and manufacture flow cells and other prototype parts using stereolithography 3D printing.
- Help to collect, process, analyze and visualize data (including in the field).
Our expectations of you
We are looking for someone with a keen interest in electronics, hardware modification, and programming (potentially enrolled as a master student within Autonomous Systems, Electrical Engineering, Design & Innovation or similar).
- Experienced in the use and modification of low-cost electronics and hardware controllers, specifically Teensy/Arduino.
- Knowledge of the Python programming language and working with hardware interfacing.
- Experience with computer-aided design and 3D printing/rapid prototyping is not a requirement but a clear advantage.
- Interest in bridging fundamental and applied research and working in an interdisciplinary team.
What we offer in return
We offer a job in a small but growing team that values scientific integrity, diversity and a healthy work-life balance. The working environment is informal and encourages close working relationships, interdisciplinary collaboration and social activities. You will have a large degree of freedom and flexibility, and contribute with your knowledge while also having a good opportunity to learn more about materials science and sensing.
Salary and appointment terms
Salary and appointment terms are in accordance with the OAO-S Joint Agreement and the organization agreement for Office Clerks, Laboratory Technicians and IT staff (HK/stat) or the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).
The working hours are approximately 15 hours per week with the flexibility to prioritize exams and assignments if needed. The duration of the position is 1 year, starting 1st of November or as shortly as possible thereafter.
