At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Electronic Systems, one or more positions as Assistant Professor within the area of Cyber Security or Computer Engineering are open for appointment from June 1, 2022, or soon after that. The positions are available for a period of 4 years (with the possibility of Tenure-Track). In electronics engineering, Aalborg University is known worldwide for its high academic quality and the societal relevance of its research programmes. The Department of Electronic Systems consists of more than 200 employees, of which about 40 % are international and about 90 PhD students. The Department hosts 620 students. The Department's excellent research infrastructures and facilities accentuate its global position in teaching and research. The Department's research centres around communication, control systems, AI, sound, Cyber Security and robotics. The Department plays an active role in translating discoveries and results into practical applications with industrial partners. Job description

We seek to appoint one or more Assistant Professors (with the possibility of Tenure-Track) to take part in research, teaching and knowledge exchange and develop the Department's research activities and scientific discovery within our subject field. The positions are with the Cyber Security and the Edge Computing and Networking research groups located at the university campus in Copenhagen.

The positions require internationally recognised research experience in at least one of the following areas:

  • Cyber Security
  • Computer engineering
  • IoT systems and networks

 The main tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Assistant professors demonstrate intellectual originality, develop their research profile, and provide valuable contributions to science.
  • Assistant professors provide research-based teaching and supervision within at least one subject area.
  • Assistant professors participate in grant application activities regarding research funds.
  • Assistant professors coordinate their own projects and contribute to an active academic environment.

Selected candidates should demonstrate development potential in science and have peer-reviewed publications in recognized journals and books or anthologies. Under the leadership of others, you can plan and carry out individual teaching and supervision activities with a focus on the students' learning. You have also contributed to workplace well-being, collaboration, equal treatment, diversity, and a good working environment.

Tenure-Track
This position is offered with the possibility of Tenure-Track. Tenure-Track Assistant Professors are appointed for a period of 6 years with the prospect of performance-based promotion to a tenured position as Associate Professor. Tenure-Track Assistant Professors are expected to have international academic standing, demonstrating acclaimed competitive research, and/or have a recognized high potential for future impact.

In Tenure-Track employment, AAU attaches particular importance to:

  • The candidate has a PhD degree or equivalent qualifications
  • The candidate can demonstrate a high degree of autonomy in their previous education and employment path
  • The candidate shows considerable potential and is among the best in their field
  • The candidate has academic experience from several universities and/or research institutions and preferably international experience
  • The candidate is a skilled communicator
  • The candidate writes and speaks English at the academic level
  • The candidate is expected to meet the criteria for permanent employment at AAU at the end of the Tenure-Track process

If appointed on Tenure-Track, the Tenure-Track Assistant Professors will have an annual interview with the head of department. An internal assessment committee will conduct a mid-term evaluation after 3 years, and an external assessment committee will conduct a final review after 5.5 years. If the final review is positive, the candidate will be offered a tenured position as Associate Professor.

The following criteria are part of the Tenure-Track review:

  • Intellectual originality, scholarly autonomy, and the level of contributions with impact.
  • The quality of research-based teaching and the ability to develop, organise, and evaluate teaching activities.
  • The level of experience with grant proposals and level of experience in communicating research to relevant stakeholders.
  • The level of contributions to an active academic environment and ability to collaborate and build relationships.

Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • A complete list of publications.
  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.

Shortlisting will be applied. After the review of any objections regarding the assessment committee, the head of department, with assistance from the chair of the assessment committee, selects the candidates to be assessed.
