A position as skilled laboratory technician is available at the University of Copenhagen, Department of Biology, Terrestrial Ecology Section, commencing 01.08.2022 or shortly thereafter.
Description of the environment
The Department of Biology is one of the largest departments at the University of Copenhagen, with approx. 500 employees, covering technical staff, scientific staff, PhD's to Professors, plus administration and teaching support. The Department's research activities cover everything in the biological world – from the smallest constituents of life, DNA and proteins, to the diversity of the plant and animal kingdom. The Terrestrial Ecology Section links ecology with biogeochemistry, soil biology and ecosystem-atmosphere interactions, and embraces field as well as laboratory approaches. The section is a diverse, international and ambitious group, comprising research and teaching staff members, laboratory technicians, PhD candidates and MSc and BSc students, with focus on many aspects of plant and microbial ecology, biogeochemistry and global change.
Main tasks and responsibilities
The tasks of the successful applicant will include the support of staff and students in the laboratory, including for example molecular work, microbial ecology work (e.g. culturing, microscopy), gas chromatography (GC), GC-Mass Spectrometry, Proton-transfer-reaction mass-spectrometry, nutrient and carbon analyses. Assistance in teaching, maintaining laboratory work flows and running small, independent projects are also a part of the responsibilities of the successful applicant.
Skills and qualifications
We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague with interest in method development, in assisting and running ecological experiments, and with good computer - and basic data processing skills. Good English skills, written and spoken, are an advantage, as we house people from many different countries.
We are aware that we cannot find a candidate with all the skills matching our needs, but candidates with skills in several of the areas mentioned above will be preferred (see main tasks and responsibilities above). Willingness to acquire new skills is expected.
Terms of employment
The employment is made in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Organizations of Public Employees – governmental institutions (the OAO-S collective agreement) and the Professional Agreement for clerical employees, laboratory technicians and IT-officers in the state.
You will be employed as a laboratory technician at salary grade 4. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The working time is 37 hours per week on average.
