Laboratory Technician for the Proteomics Research Infrastructure

The Proteomics Research Infrastructure (PRI) is a state-of-the-art mass spectrometry (MS) based proteomics research facility located at the faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen.

PRI offers easy and timely access to the newest proteomics technologies providing support at all levels from consultancy, over sample preparation, to MS measurements and data analysis. PRI is funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF) and linked to the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR) a top-notch research institute for fundamental protein research, which is world-leading in its proteomics technologies. The research environment at PRI and CPR is vibrant, ambitious, and international, with many different nationalities represented. The working language is English.

We are searching for an experienced Laboratory Technician to support the clinical proteomics pipelines at PRI.

Job descriptions

The selected candidate will work within the PRI team and be actively involved in the clinical proteomics sample preparation pipelines. The selected candidate will play a key role in getting samples ready to be analyzed on state-of-the-art MS equipment. This includes the extraction and digestion of proteins from body fluids (e.g., blood), or tissue biopsies with the most advanced technical equipment including fully automated liquid handling systems, and semi-automated workflows. The candidate will work closely together with the proteomics application specialists at PRI and be able to prioritize the scheduled tasks. The Laboratory Technician will also have an independent overview of the general operation and maintenance of the laboratory.

The tasks of the Laboratory Technician will include:


  • Preparation of samples for proteomics analysis including large sample cohorts of several thousand samples

  • Operating automated sample preparation platforms

  • Documentation of experiments using electronic lab book, project, and sample management systems

  • Maintain stocks of chemicals and buffers

  • Carrying out any other duties that may reasonably be associated with the position

Qualifications

The selected candidate should be reliable and well organized. The work requires independence and demands flexibility and accuracy. Furthermore, the candidate should have good interpersonal skills and interested in working within an international team.

The ideal candidate should fulfil the following qualifications:


  • Minimum three years of work experience as a laboratory technician in a research or analytical laboratory

  • Proven experience in molecular biology or biochemistry laboratory work and techniques

  • Good computer literacy and previous experience working with databases

  • Good English communication skills, both oral and written 

  • Previous experience in operating automated liquid handling robots and sample management systems will be considered an advantage.

Employment conditions for the Laboratory Technician

The employment is a fixed position for 2 years. Start date is as soon as possible. Working hours are 37 hours per week.

The position as Laboratory Technician will be in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and HK LAB in salary group 4. On top of the basic salary there is a monthly contribution to a pension fund according to the collective agreement, and a supplement may be negotiated, dependent on the candidate’s experiences and qualifications.
