Laboratory and fabrication coordinator

The Center for Quantum Devices (QDev) comprises several research laboratories and condensed-matter projects on the highest international level. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to organize, maintain and improve the associated experimental laboratory (measurement and cleanroom activities) in Copenhagen and assist in managing teams of scientists.

The ideal candidate is familiar with at least one of the following: research lab equipment infrastructure, mechanical/electrical engineering of experimental setups, low-temperature techniques, cleanroom techniques and fabrication process engineering.

The scope includes managing lab improvements, maintenance, and expansions, assisting with hiring and acquainting new scientists, setting up processes for cleanroom activities (supporting the training and development of new scientists), supporting a sustainable scheme for tracking fabrication recipes/processes, as well as working with the local workshops and our equipment suppliers to support up time and access to all lab facilities. 

The position will be critical to support our experimental work on the campus of Copenhagen University. The responsibility will also include interaction with our suppliers for scheduled maintenance, immediate repair, and upgrade work of our equipment (including cryostats, measurement electronics, vacuum pumps, and cooling compressors). We seek an organized applicant with problem solving skills, with a keen eye for the evolving infrastructure needs of the lab and cleanroom activities as well as good interpersonal skills for day-to-day interaction with students and staff members. 

As a Laboratory and Fabrication Coordinator of one of the premier quantum labs of Europe, the position will provide the candidate with valuable experience, as well as many opportunities to make a positive impact in a highly dynamic environment of scientists and engineers trying to push the boundaries of quantum science.

The ideal Candidate should be:

• Solution oriented, detail oriented, reliable, with a broad technical skillset
• Fluent in English, oral and written (Danish is a plus) 
• Strong communication skills 
• Hands-on problem solver, engaging
• Research and/or lab experience, ideally mechanical/electrical background
• Ideally, physics background and/or familiarity with low-temperature techniques
• Highly organized 
• Enjoys supporting the students in their experimental work and needs
• Capable of, or willing to learn, facilitating hiring and integration of new staff members
• Enjoys creating awareness with the lab users to maintain a functional structure 
• Interested in solving technical problems and planning ahead

Terms of employment

It is a full-time position, and the duration of the position is 2 years, starting date: as soon as possible.

The employment and salary are made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

Employment will be as academic employee or special consultant depending on the candidate’s background. The salary is based on seniority; negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
