Copenhagen Business SchooI invites applications for the position as head of the Maritime Research Alliance secretariat. Maritime Research Alliance is a non-profit network organization for maritime researchers at Aalborg University, Aarhus University, Copenhagen Business School, Danish Institute for International Studies, IT University Copenhagen, Maritime and Polytechnic College, M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark, Roskilde University, Svendborg International Maritime Academy, Technical University of Denmark, University of Copenhagen, University of Southern Denmark. The secretariat is located at Department of Strategy and Innovation at Copenhagen Business School. The alliance aims to advance collaborative, sector focused teaching, research, and innovation within three broad themes: 1) decarbonization and green transition, 2) digitalization and data-drive growth and 3) automation and infrastructure developments.

Concretely, the Maritime Research Alliance aims to:

  • Initiate research projects to advance green transition in the Danish maritime cluster (The Blue Denmark)
  • Make Danish maritime research and education visible in Denmark and abroad
  • Be a visible entry point for research, development and innovation collaboration with business and other organizations in the maritime sector
  • Strengthen maritime research and education and attract talent to the area
  • Contribute to tackling complex, maritime-related business and societal challenges that require new cross-disciplinary research, development and innovation
  • Promote and coordinate projects across institutions and collaborate with companies, industry organizations, regulators, and NGO’s etc.     

The Maritime Research Alliance was established in 2020 and has received funding from the Danish Maritime Fund and Orients Fund to support its activities.
We are looking for a candidate who can lead the Maritime Research Alliance secretariat, including the development and administration of the Maritime Research Alliance, the initiation of conferences and other events, coordination within the alliance, collaboration with external stakeholders, and the development and execution of a long-term organizational and financial setup for the alliance.

SI’s research is focused on strategy, innovation, entrepreneurship, and international business. The department’s ambition is to host an internationally leading environment for research and teaching within the broad area of strategy. The department’s research is generally cross-disciplinary. Faculty members have backgrounds in management, economics, sociology, and economic geography. The theoretical foundation for research in these areas is eclectic, combining strategy, innovation, and/or internationalization theory with insights from economics, sociology, psychology, and economic geography. The number of staff at the department is approximately 90. This includes about 55 faculty members (professors, associate professors, tenure track assistant professors), 7 administrative staff. The position is allocated to the department’s activities within the area of shipping and maritime Industry.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinating the tasks of the two academic employees and a student assistant in the Maritime Research Alliance secretariat
  • Advising and reporting to the steering committee which consist of representatives from the 12 member institutions
  • Developing and executing a strategy for the establishment of a long-term organizational and financial setup for the alliance together with the steering committee
  • Instigating and supporting the creation of relevant research proposals and cross-disciplinary project
  • Ensuring a high level of collaborative teamwork within the alliance through project planning, transparency and openness
  • Securing a continuous dialogue and collaboration between the Danish research community and stakeholders in the Danish maritime cluster including the maritime industry organizations, Danish Maritime Authority, and maritime NGO’s etc.
  • Planning and delivering relevant conferences, workshops and events

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge about and experience with working together with the maritime research community in Denmark
  • Extensive knowledge about and experience with working together with stakeholders the maritime sector
  • Prior experience with managing a network organization
  • Proficiency in Danish and English (fluently spoken and written)
  • PhD degree in a relevant academic field is an advantage

Salary and terms of employment
Employment and remuneration take place in accordance with the applicable agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the relevant organization with classification and remuneration depending on qualifications and experience. The position is placed at the Department of Strategy and Innovation in the middle of CBS Campus in Frederiksberg, Denmark. The position is based at CBS, but the applicant can also expect to spend time at the other alliance member institutions on a regular basis and actively participate in the academic and other activities of the alliance members. As the alliance members are located throughout Denmark, a considerable mobility is expected of the chosen applicant.
