Business Unit Manager with a strong research commercialisation profile for Open Entrepreneurship at Copenhagen School of Entrepreneurship (CBS)

Are you ready to create value by excelling research commercialisation with our entrepreneurial ecosystem? We are looking for a Business Unit Manager to deliver hands-on academic mentoring and business development through the Open Entrepreneurship initiative. This is a fixed-term project with possibility for an extension.

About CBS and Open Entrepreneurship 

Copenhagen Business School (CBS) recognises the vital role of business and the public sector in shaping society. As a new initiative, CBS has become a partner in Open Entrepreneurship (OE), which aims to strengthen the collaboration between the public and the private sector by turning high-quality research into commercialized ventures. Open Entrepreneurship is connecting experienced entrepreneurs with researchers to explore commercial and innovative opportunities. These can either be entrepreneurial (spinout or start-up company) or intrapreneurial (within the university, company or organization). OE is a collaborative initiative between several of the Danish universities and The Danish Industry Foundation.  The project run until December 2021 with the likelihood of an extension.  

Open Entrepreneurship at CBS is physically located at Copenhagen School of Entrepreneurship (CSE). CSE is the unit at CBS, focusing on practical and applied entrepreneurship. It is the largest student entrepreneurship community in Denmark engaging more than 250 new start-ups each year. CSE is open for students and recent graduates from all universities, ensuring an interdisciplinary and multinational environment.

As Business Unit Manager, you will be responsible for: 

  • Scouting and coaching relevant research-based projects at CBS faculties, and building teams around projects.    

  • Delivering bespoke workshops and academic experiences designed to help academics find market opportunities in their research. 

  • Identifying, planning and facilitating relevant activities and events to promote OE at CBS.  

  • Promoting the growth of our entrepreneurial ecosystem around selected areas with researchers, entrepreneurs and industry as key actors.   

  • Matching researchers with CBS/CSE entrepreneurs, either as advisors, mentors or potential partners or board members.   

  • Developing a sustainable business model for future initiatives at CBS 

  • Managing the network of key persons and partners related to OE, strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem across institutions.   

The ideal applicant: 

  • Has comprehensive experience when it comes to working with research-based start-ups, e.g. by starting own companies, being a facilitator of the start-up ecosystem or has worked with start-up investing.   

  • Knows the entrepreneurial environment - nationally and internationally.    

  • Is a structured and experienced project manager.   

  • Can work in an innovative and flexible environment.   

  • Is proficient in reaching out to new people, stakeholder management and networking.    

  • Has solid social and communicative skills.   

  • Experienced in facilitating business development sessions. 

  • Has a business background. 

  • Speaks and writes fluent English - and preferably Danish.

You will work closely with CSE's enthusiastic employees, the Business Unit Managers from OE at other universities, and several hundred committed and skilled students who make their own companies. CSE is located at Porcelænshaven at CBS, Frederiksberg.

Period of Employment 
Fixed-term project with possibility for an extension. 

The ideal candidate is available to start as soon as possible. 

The position is a full-time position however with the possibility for configuring as a part-time position. 

Prior to your appointment you will have the opportunity to negotiate your salary. Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Danish Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Central Academic Organisation.
