Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a vacant Associate Professorship in Political Management and Governance at the Department of Management, Politics and Philosophy

In announcing an associate professorship in political management and governance, the department wishes to strengthen theoretically informed praxis-oriented research into the management of public and political organisations. We invite applicants interested in new and transformative conditions of management, governance and organisation produced by new reforms, policy trends and technologies. We seek candidates whose work combine strong theoretical skills, empirical ambition and interdisciplinary foci.

Examples of research areas that the associate professor might cover:

  • Contemporary ideational and ideological contestations concerning public and political governance and management practices.
  • Public reform, public innovation and cross-sector collaboration and the political and managerial implications of these in particular sectors or organizations.
  • New conditions and possibilities of political management and governance constituted by e.g. welfare technology, new demands of transparency, collaborative concepts, big data and algorithms.
  • How transformative and innovative processes create different forms of tensions arising from the interplay between disparate partners e.g., relating to issues of organizational boundaries, transparency, and membership.

MPP is a unique Business Humanities department central to the CBS Strategy of transforming society with business. MPP is a multi-disciplinary research department with the ambition to make our research in management and organization studies at an internationally qualified level known to students, companies, public institutions, and research colleagues as innovative, creative and critical/reflexive. A creative, multi-disciplinary dialogue that challenges and combines academic disciplines and perspectives ties research at the department together. This implies that core areas like management, strategy, leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship, aesthetics, politics, philosophy, sociology and history, become productive and critically relevant in new ways. The department is committed to research-based education and to bring this new knowledge into play in society in a constructive, engaged, and valuable manner. A key focus of MPP is to publish its research with highly ranked academic journals and publishers across a broad spectrum of areas, reflecting the department’s multidisciplinary set-up.

MPP is organised into five research groups: politics; law; business history; philosophy and management. Within and between these groups, research and teaching is developed theoretically and empirically in areas such as leadership philosophy; business ethics; business law; sociology of markets and organization; sustainability; the history of markets and businesses; organizations and entrepreneurship; art and aesthetics; strategy; welfare management and political communication. MPP also participates in numerous interdisciplinary cross CBS activities.  

Across the department, there is a keen interest in developing new forms of teaching and learning environments in collaboration with CBS faculty, international researchers, students and partner organizations. MPP’s researchers teach in a wide range of CBS programs and covers Bachelor, Master and PhD levels as well as executive programs.

The position is located in the Politics Group.

To fulfill the research requirements of the position, the applicant chosen is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the teaching and research activities of the Department.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching and associated examination in existing CBS programs including cand.soc in Political Communication and Management, and Master in Public Governance.
  • Individual and group-based research meeting the highest international standards
  • Communicating findings to the public in general and to CBS’s stakeholders in particular, including participating in the public debate on political management and governance.
  • Promoting CBS’s public and academic reputation
  • Initiating fund-raising and coordinating research projects
  • Promoting the teaching and research capabilities of Copenhagen Business School and other relevant assignments at Copenhagen Business School
  • Contributing to the administrative responsibilities of the Department and to CBS-wide tasks
  • Research meeting high international standards, including responsibility for the academic development of the relevant discipline
  • Responsibility for publishing, scientific communication and research-based teaching
  • Active participation in the regular research activities, such as research seminars, workshops and conferences.

The Associate Professor is expected to contribute to the development and application of the research of the Department’s research areas and to maintain and strengthen CBS’s international research position. This, among other things, implies strategic development of a research field, providing leadership and guidance of junior staff and systematically engagement with and the securing of external funding. 

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in an appropriate field

  • Documented research production at an international level, including publications in the field’s internationally recognized journals
  • Professional proficiency in English (written and spoken)

  • Recruitment procedure 
    The Recruitment Committee will shortlist minimum two applicants; when possible five or more applicants will be shortlisted. The shortlisted applicants will be assessed by the Assessment Committee. All applicants will be notified of their status in the recruitment process shortly after the application deadline.  

    The applicants selected for assessment will be notified about the composition of the Assessment Committee and later in the process about the result of the assessment. 

    Once the recruitment process is completed each applicant will be notified of the outcome of their application.
