Associate Professorship in Civil Society Studies

Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a vacant Associate Professorship in Civil Society Studies at the Department of Management, Politics and Philosophy (MPP)

In announcing this Associate Professorship, the Department wishes to strengthen theoretically informed civil society studies by increasing the comparative understanding of historical developments and contemporary practices of civil society nationally and internationally.

In particular, we expect that the candidate has a research profile covering one or more of these themes:

• Civil society in the context of cultural economy and/or political economy
• Civil society in a historical sociological, cultural and critical perspective.
• Conceptual developments of civil society
• The organization of the relationship between Civil Society, State and Market and how and to what extent these spheres provides inclusion and/or exclusion.

MPP is a unique Business Humanities department central to the CBS Strategy of transforming society with business. It is a multi-disciplinary research department with the ambition to undertake and communicate to students and peers our innovative, creative and critical research. A creative, multi-disciplinary dialogue that challenges and combines academic disciplines and perspectives ties research at the Department together. This implies that core areas like management, strategy, leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship, aesthetics, politics, philosophy, sociology and history, become productive and relevant in new ways. The Department is committed to research-based education and to bring this new knowledge into play in society in a constructive, engaged, and valuable manner. A key focus of MPP is to publish its research with highly ranked academic journals and publishers across a broad spectrum of areas, reflecting the Department’s multidisciplinary set-up.

MPP is organised into five research groups: Politics; Law; Business History; Philosophy; and Management. Faculty within these groups have research backgrounds in areas of law, political science, sociology, philosophy, history, anthropology, aesthetics, design and innovation, tourism and leisure management, cultural economics, leadership and strategy, and pedagogic study. What unites faculty is an overriding concern for the organization of the human within its multiple environments: work, nature, economy, civil association, the state, and corporation.

Across the Department, there is a keen interest in developing new forms of teaching and learning in collaboration with CBS faculty, international researchers, students and partner organizations. MPP’s researchers teach in a wide range of CBS programs covering Bachelor, Master and PhD levels as well as executive programs.

The position is located in the Politics Group.

The Associate Professorship is a tenured position with research and teaching obligations.

To fulfil the research requirements of the position, the applicant chosen is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the teaching and research activities of the Department.

Responsibilities

• Teaching and associated examination in existing CBS programs, including Executive Education
• Individual and group-based research meeting the highest international standards
• Promoting CBS’s academic reputation
• Initiating fund-raising and coordinating research projects
• Promoting the teaching and research capabilities of Copenhagen Business School and other relevant assignments at Copenhagen Business School
• Contributing to the administrative responsibilities of the Department and to CBS-wide tasks
• Communicating findings to the public in general and to CBS’s stakeholders in particular, including participating in the public debate.
• Research meeting high international standards, including responsibility for the academic development of the relevant discipline
• Responsibility for publishing, scientific communication and research-based teaching
• Active participation in the regular research activities, such as research seminars, workshops and conferences.
• Program management and coordination when required.

The Associate Professor is expected to contribute to the development and application of the research of the Department’s research areas and to maintain and strengthen CBS’s international research position. This, among other things, implies strategic development of a research field, providing leadership and guidance of junior staff and systematically engagement with and the securing of external funding.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in an appropriate field

• Documented research production at an international level, including publications in the field’s internationally recognized journals
• Professional proficiency in English (written and spoken)
