DTU Sustain invites applications for a position as an Associate Professor or Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Daylighting and Lighting in Buildings.

The research focus is on integrated daylighting and lighting solutions for energy-efficient buildings and their occupants. With a thorough knowledge of the metrics, assessment and measurement methods and tools, the candidate will engage in research that advances understanding of the association between light, other indoor environment parameters and occupant comfort, health, and performance. 

The Section for Indoor Environment at DTU SUSTAIN conducts research to develop design criteria and technical solutions with the purpose of establishing healthy, comfortable, and productivity-stimulating indoor environments as energy efficiently as possible. Within this framework, you will carry out experimental and theoretical research to enhance occupant well-being and energy efficiency of buildings. The work includes theoretical evaluations, simulations, experiments in climate chambers and field studies. 

Responsibilities and qualifications 

The candidate will engage in research and teaching in daylight and lighting in buildings.

Candidates are expected to lead collaborative, innovative and multi-disciplinary research activities, while also contributing to teaching in daylight and lighting at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Supervision of B.Eng, B.Sc and M.Sc students are other core responsibilities. Moreover, the successful candidate is expected to engage in fundraising and participate in externally funded national and international projects. Other primary tasks involve services to public administrations and the industry and dissemination of research results through scientific publications and towards the industry.

The qualified candidate should be able to document

  • Expertise in detailed daylighting and lighting analysis with computational tools and measurements
  • Expertise in the influence of daylight and lighting on human comfort, health and performance 
  • Knowledge of the effects of combined exposures to multiple indoor environment factors
  • Expertise and experience in the design, conduction and analysis of user assessment in laboratory and field studies
  • Familiarity with tools for simulation of daylighting, electric lighting, and building energy performance
  • Experience in the development and management of scientific research projects

You must be responsible for the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). If you are applying for the associate professor position you should also have academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training.
