The Department of Computer Science at the University of Copenhagen (DIKU) is seeking candidates for an associate professor with promotion track (to full professor) or full professor in Health Informatics.

The researcher will join a rapidly growing department, with strong research sections in the areas of Algorithms and Complexity, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Human-Centered Computing, Software Engineering and Data Management, Programming Languages, and Image Analysis. The department is heading 2 centers within Artificial Intelligence: the SCIENCE AI Center (https://ai.ku.dk/ ) and the Pioneer Center within Artificial Intelligence (https://di.ku.dk/ai-centre ).

Description of the position
We are looking for an experienced researcher with an innovative mindset and intellectual curiosity to strengthen and complement the research profile in Health Informatics as part of the Software, Data, People & Society section (SDPS). The SDPS Section’s research span from research in software and data management technologies to computer supported cooperative work (CSCW), information systems and participatory methods for development of software systems, which are suited for the people developing and using the software systems thereby creating value for society – often in an interdisciplinary setting and in collaboration with public and private stakeholders.

Collaboration with the remaining sections at DIKU (Human-Centred Computing, Image, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Programming Language and Theory of Computing, and Algorithms and Complexity) as well as the remainder of University of Copenhagen including the Faculty of Health is an obvious opportunity.

The candidate is expected to make a significant contribution to leadership in Health Informatics within the Department of Computer Science. The candidate must ensure that health informatics research, teaching, and outreach activities are thriving, and act as a mentor to young researchers. The candidate will be expected to secure competitive external funding and build an internationally recognized research group.

Outstanding applicants in all areas of health informatics will be considered, but research areas of special interest include:

• Patient-centered digital health
• Clinical decision support
• Hospital and clinical information systems
• IT-infrastructures for health care
• Interoperability, standards and terminologies
• Analysis, design and implementation processes
• Artificial intelligence in healthcare

Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required.

Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.

About the promotion programme as Associate Professor
The University of Copenhagen offers particularly talented associate professors employment with the possibility to enter into a promotion programme that can lead to employment as a professor.​ To be employed as an associate professor on the promotion programme, the candidate must both qualify to work as an associate professor now and demonstrate the potential to transition into a position as a professor at the end of the programme. Both will be assessed based on the UCHP criteria for merit.

An associate professor is usually on the promotion programme for a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 8 years. During the programme, there will be annual interviews with the head of department to assess if the associate professor is “on track”. The programme ends with a final assessment before transitioning to professorship.
